Best Job/Worst Job

My best job-camp counselor. Enjoyed the great outdoors, responsiblity and comararderie that I never had in school. Lots of great memories. (pay sucked, though, only made $500 for the summer.)

Worst Job - worked in a linen store for one whole day. Quit the next and never bothered to pick up that big whopping pay check.

Oddly, my best job and my worst job are the same.

Disneyland, on a good day, is everything one could ever want from a job. Great co-workers, fun public…I distinctly recall being grabbed and waltzed around a (nearly empty) Emporium during one of the parades, for example.

OTOH, on a bad day it truly deserves the nickname “Happiest Hell-Hole on Earth.” I have blocked those memories, however.

Best Job: Construction, I get paid to exercise.

Worst Job: Burger King, nuff said.

Best job: Circuit City Warehouse(in training for management)

Worst Job: Washing camper shells in 120+ degree weather for a measly 400 a month. (worked out to be 25 bucks an hour(but only 4 hours once every 2 weeks))

Funny thing is, these 2 jobs have been the only 2 “real jobs” I have had.

**Best Job ** My job. I love my job…

**Worst Jov ** I worked as a title clerk at a car dealership for 2 1/2 years. Will never do it again.

Oh gawsh! I’ve held a bunch.

For the down and dirty there’s several competitors: reactor operator at a chemical plant actually payed damn well, but involved humans and chemicals what eat’em, burgermeister for a local chain; it was cool to be a “boss” at a young age, but didn’t really count for much; being a bar band drummer and an all-night cabdriver were my claims to fame in the 70s. Now I am employed as a District Geophysicist and it’s easily the rockingest [insert Coldfire coment here] job I have ever had.

Best job - the job I have now, I’m surrounded by kids all day long and love it.

Worst job - I worked for the government for 14 years. The last 5 were sheer hell. Never again.

Best paying job (not well paying, just a paying job as opposed to SAHM which is what I do now) - actually there’s two and I worked them both at the same time. 9-2 I worked in a warehouse where we packaged together rebuilding kits for semis and school buses among other things. At night and on weekends I worked in a gift shop (Hallmark). I liked driving the fork truck and that everyone got to take turns being inspector on the line at the warehouse. I liked helping the customers at the card shop. Well, there was the one lady that yelled at me and made me cry when I was pregnant, but most people were pretty nice.

Worst job - I worked in the kitchen of a convelescent home. The nurses and nurses aides seemed to take endless pleasure in making sure that we kitchen staff knew that we were the lowest in the pecking order of the institution. We went through 3 bosses (dieticians or whatever they were) in 3 months. I would get yelled at (by the nursing staff) about things that I had no control over. I can’t smell hospital food to this day without getting sick to my stomach.

Best Job - Marina Attendant, Lake Catherine State Park. Five summers of booze and broads.

Worst Job - Hauling Garbage during the summer of 1980, the second hottest summer on record in Arkansas.

Best job; Current - run a non profit helping people.

Worst job: (And I think I may win this category) - ran a correction center where folks could come and go, had to do things like; Take urine drops (visually screen folks peeing into a sample container…) pack up their property if they got locked up/split (included itemizing and listing ALL items, like dirty laundry …) asking drunk/high person for a urine specimin… telling them they had to see so-and-so (which meant probably they were getting locked up), searching people (including pat downs/etc.)

Couldn’t pay me enough these days to do any of that
:shudder:

Both best and worst were summer jobs while I was an undergrad:

BEST: Painting schools. Fun job, not too stressful, and easy pace.

WORST: Shoveling at a refractory cement plant. Noisy (I couldn’t hear the shovel hit the ground when I dropped it), dirty (had to wear face masks, and I still sneezed black; had to take TWO baths when I got home), and downright unsafe. Didn’t stay long.I then got another job at a plant shoveling highly explosive stuff. But they had LOTS of safety procedures, and did things in a proper manner.

Ok so this my first post at this place… wish me luck

Best job: My current one, where i work fora phone company doing customer support for internet customers… Ok the customers can be a pain in the ass sometimes, but the coworkers are awesome, the hours… well i choose my entire schedule myself… so it couldnt be better, the pay is decent (for an un-educated sorta job) and its a cool job where people arent on your back every other second

Worst job: a summer back when i was in HS i temped as a garbage disposal type guy… it was the hottest summer ever and i was working in a vacation area where people just threw everything out when they left to go home from vacation… imagine what a bag of meat thta has been resting in the boiling sun for 8 days looks like… the bag was litteraly FULL with maggots… YUCK! its a job im never going back to, but it was nice to prove to myself that if i had to… i actually could do it

My best job is my current job. Lousy hours, but the pay is good and the company is employee-friendly.

My worst job was a landscaping job my father got me when I was 17. Because dear ole dad got it for me I didn’t feel right about quitting. Thank God I was fired after 3 weeks. I HATED that job.

best job, current job

worst job: Working 12 hr shifts packing frozen food into boxes in a meat factory.

Welcome to the Board, Skummet. Many happy postings!

Best job: what I do now - Advanced Life Support Ambulance Officer.

Worst job: restocking shelves in the dairy section of a supermarket after hours. Menial work, crap pay, shitty hours, arsehole boss. Never again!

Best job - toss-up trail-guide on horseback (bad pay but I got to ride all the time) or working on Coca-Cola’s summer promo (great pay)

Worst job - another toss up, conter person at A&W,working as a promo mgr at a nightclub for a disgusting old lech, or being in the army with a large group or disgusting lechs.

worst job - Assistant Janitor (I wasn’t even a full fledged janitor) at an elementary school. Less than minimum wage for long hours on the business end of a mop. You’d be surprised at the creativity of kids when they mix bodily excretions with art in the bathrooms.

best job - I hope I haven’t had it yet.

Best Job: Flight Simulator Technician - great fun both fixing, running, and playing with the simulators.

Worst Job: So many of my jobs qualify as bad. . . usually the negative factor was the people I had to deal with. Bad bosses in particular, although bad employees can be even worse. The Worst was Director of Biomedical Engineering during the year I had a terrible employee I couldn’t fire. The stress was unbelievable – literally almost killed me. The other 4 years of this job were fine.

Best Job= Delivery driver (trainee) for a bottled water company. This is the ONLY job I ever had that I had not one single thing to complain about. I miss it so much! I was let go for reasons not of my own accord, nor the company’s.

Worst Job The job I currently have. I work third shift stocking shelves at a supermarket. I have already covered why I hate this job so much, in another thread. I honestly can tell you that I would rather work at Mc Donalds full time than the pit I work at now, and that’s quite a statement!

The best job involved the words “blow” and “receiving”

The worst: The Egg Farm. Yuck!
