I haven’t cooked a Thanksgiving dinner all by myself in over 20 years. Now that I have my own house I decided it was time to stop being the rootless bachelor and cook my own dinner.
I invited 2 co-workers (man & wife) and I did all the cooking. Such fun! I filled a big, square pan with homemade stuffing, and baked a huge turkey breast on top.
Delicious.
Afterwards we watched “White Christmas” with Bing and Danny and had a lovely time.
I’m working today because they are paying double and a half overtime and not one phone call yet, ha!
So, even in the mundane sphere I have much to be thankful for.
My Wife and I had just returned from a trip on Tuesday, and have all the rest of the week off. Didn’t do any of the relative stuff.
Anywho, Thursday morning we did not have any water. Pipes where frozen so it was a little sketchy at first. Got things thawed out and made a real nice dinner for the two of us.
Mine was depressing, which I won’t go into as it is every year. But, the one really odd moment was finding out that my Dad ( who died in 1975 when I was 9) received a full football scholarship to Ohio State back in 1940ish.
It was like it was a dirty family secret or something. He played two years ( or went two years and rode the bench, I don’t know.) and then was drafted or joined the Army to go fight the in War.
Well, good for you, BMalion! I, too, had one of my best Thanksgivings in years. In fact, I’m still enjoying the after-glow; so I’m really glad to know that someone else out there is feeling that, too!
We have a small family circle, even smaller if you count those of us east of the Mississippi. So all six of us gathered for one of the most memorable TGs ever. This was because of the newest member of the family, our first grandchild, enjoying her first TG. She isn’t up to un-pureed meat yet, but we gave her a little dish with broccoli, stuffing and sweet potatoes and let her go to it. Yum. Nom, nom, nom. She is a true joy. She actually went for the broccoli first because of the color, and seemed to enjoy it, too!
I’m glad you enjoyed it. I always like making Thanksgiving dinner, and this year I did it with only minimal injuries. (The worst was when I plunged my hands in a pool of boiling grease. Ouch.)
Hey, that’s great, I’m glad to hear you had such a nice time.
I feel like I totally cheated by boycotting the Family Thanksgiving Drama entirely this year. I do love my family, but we celebrate by all journeying 250 miles to my parents’ house and not coming home until Sunday. Kids, spouses, grandkids, stray cousins and friends, all one big old family gathering for four days. In one house.
To be fair, I used to enjoy this greatly, until one of my siblings married a complete idiot. The last few years have been increasingly problematic, and this year I told my grateful husband we could just stay home.
We invited a few friends and had a positively wonderful time with them. My husband and I couldn’t be prouder at how well everything turned out on our first Thanksgiving dinner we cooked together, too.
