Best time of year for eBay

Thinking along the same lines at this thread…

Is there a best/worst time of year to sell things on eBay? Do people buy more before the holidays? Or less in mid-summer when they are more likely to be on vacation?

I wonder whether eBay has published any statistics on the best time/date to sell. I know that their estimates of sales probability are getting more and more scientific…

Depends on what you are selling. Overall, summer sucks for just about anything.

It’s Asian antiques mostly.

I have noticed the summer lull. I was wondering if it might do like the stock market: a slow period in October and then a boom at Christmastime…

Selkie has this down to a science, and I hope she’ll be along soon to explain. She contends that everything slows down for sellers as the holidays gets closer, and things are busiest between early September and early November. Since I sell geeky stuff (comic books, toys, and movies, and games), I’ve had the best luck in January and August/September, when college students get their loan and scholarship checks and have money to burn.

It usually depends on what you’re selling, but I can see competing schools of thought: one that sales slow down this time of year as people start buying more Christmas presents from other sources, and one that sales might pick up, as they turn more and more to the Internet for holiday shopping.
