I just found out that I’ll be going Vegas from May 29th to June 1st. I’ll be flying from Newark to Las Vegas once I book my flight. The problem is that flights are very expensive right now. Does it makes sense to wait to see if flights get cheaper, or will they only go up?
What airline? I have found that with Southwest it’s better to book as far ahead as possible, but with Delta it’s better to wait until Tuesday (today) to check for specials.
Really, any airline. I just checked Delta, and they’re at $569, which is relatively steep.
Try USAir. Expedia has them with flights from $360.
I heard Wednesday at midnight is a good time (maybe I heard that around here!)
and scope out more than one website. Good luck!
Thanks much, that might be my best option.
Kalhoun: Do you mean tonight at midnight? You probably do, but just checking since others have made that mistake before.
Thanks for the help.
Have you tried the consolidator sites, like kayak.com? I know kayak has a widget where you can see the history of prices for that flight (ie, whether prices have gone up or down recently).
Otherwise, I agree, buying on Tuesdays/Wednesdays is usually a good idea.
www.farechase.com (now it’s owned by Yahoo) has always given me great pricing, no matter when I checked. It checks basically everybody elses site. Just now the best price for your trip was $349.
Finally got it for $373 using farechase. I didn’t have much airport or time flexibility. Thanks everyone!
Actually, I don’t know if I mean tonight at midnight or last night at midnight. Technically, there is only one midnight, which would be tonight. However, the world has adopted this 12am and 12pm thing, so I’m not sure where midnight falls anymore.
At any rate, you found a fare. You might want to take a peek at midnight and see if there’s a better one out there.
I have good friends here in Las Vegas as I write this. Their son got married yesterday and 16 people flew out here - all from Illinois.
The parents and most of their kids booked early (three months ago): $99 round trip.
One friend booked later (about three weeks ago): $345 round trip.
Another friend booked last week: $1,000 round trip!!!
Not sure what is going on…but it sounds like the further in advance the better, but not sure what oil prices are doing to air fares these days.
