Another Picard one that comes to mind was the final sequence of “The Inner Light” (I think thats what is called… when he lives an entire life on a long extinct planet)
Riker comes into the Captains quarters and gives him the only thing they found on board the old probe, a “Flute” that he played all the time in his alternative life. He held it close to his heart like it was the only thing he had left in the world.
On STNG, the episode where Picard has to bluff the Ferengi into giving back Mrs. Troi. He nees to convince them that she’s really HIS lover, and he wants her back. So Picard breaks into Shakespeare: “My love is a fever!”
Seemed like Patrick Stewart had a blast with that one!
DS-9 Call to Arms After loosing the station to the Dominion Sisko is just sitting pensively on the Defiant’s bridge with a very determined look on his face as his ship meets up with the Federation/Klingon taskforce.
Agreed with gonzoron and bernse. That Inner Light ending was really quite powerful.
Also, when Picard jumps over the console muttering “that’ll be the day” and opening fire on the Klingon warbird, while trying to get the Enterprise C back to the battle.
That is the epsiode and scene I’m thinking of, right?
That’s a good one too… damn, but Sisko has a lot of good moments.
One of my favorite fun ones was, right after his baseball team (the Niners) loses a baseball game to a team of Vulcans (the Logicians, I think), Sisko and his team are celebrating their loss at Quark’s. The Vulcan team captain comes up to Sisko and says something about typically irrational human behavior, trying to turn defeat into victory. Sisko stands up with his glass and laughs in his face, saying “Yes, it is!” The Vulcan is at a loss to reply as the rest of the team makes fun of him, then Kira throws Sisko a baseball, which the rest of the Niners have signed for him. Sisko smiles a huge happy smile and holds it out to the Vulcan. “You wanna sign it?”
OK, OK, it’s baseball… but a great Sisko moment. Very indicative of him as a leader.
Ooooh, oooh–Picard’s speech to the Season One crew in the final episode of TNG.
The fact that the crew–who from their perspective had only known Picard for a short time–obeyed a guy who appeared to be nuts is a testimony to what a great leader he could be.
And, on top of that, Picard sacrificing his ship, his crew, and himself three times over in the same episode. Classic Picard.
Also, in the episode where the ship gets caught in some kind of anomoly that creates two Voyagers. When the Vidiians invade one of the Voyagers, that ship’s Janeway orders a self-destruct and blows up the ship with herself and almost the entire crew. (Harry Kim and baby Naomi Wildman get sent to the surviving Voyager because their duplicate selves died.)
Picard playing the flute at the end of Inner Light was my favorite. It truely expressed how Picard would deal with losing 35 years of a life that was never his. It also made him deal with the responsibility of being the last “member” of their culture.
Kirk’s “I don’t like to lose” made me grin.
And while I’ve only seen a few DS9s I’ll say my favorite Sisko moment was went he upper cutted Q.
Q: Picard never hit me!
Sisko: I’m not Picard!
And Janeway… Uh. Hmm. Erm. Well, I guess when she brought 7 of 9 aboard.
>“My God, Bones. What have I done?”
“What you had to do. What you always do. Turned death into a fighting chance to live.”
-Admiral Kirk and Doctor McCoy as they watch the USS Enterprise break aprt in the atmosphere.<
Very memorable at first hearing. One that gives me strength in tough times.
“Of my friend, I can only say this; of all the souls that I have encountered in my travels, his was the most…human.”~Kirk’s Eulogy for Spock, WOK
Ok, now I’m like weeping and stuff. I hope you’re all pleased…
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, when Kirk has Saavik “Use our console to order Reliant to lower her shields.” and turns to Khan and says, “Here it comes.” The blank, expressionless on Kirk’s face is totally priceless. There’s nothing better than appearing totally helpless before your enemy, and then stabbing him in the heart!
