Best video editing software for commercials?

I’m in the market for some video editing software. What I want to do is to make commercial-like videos… I know it’s terrible but the closest thing I can compare what I want to make to is Political Attack Ads.

I’m not making attack ads (although that job may be somewhat fun) however, I am editing together clips, pictures, etc. coupled with narration and words for memory videos I am putting together for my friends and I.

In your humble opinion, what software is the best to make the videos I would like to?

Also, what is the price etc.?

Thanks! and no attack ads, I promise

I use Final Cut Pro. It runs only on the Macintosh OS-X system. It is enormously flexible- more than you will likely need for the projects that you are describing.

It is used to cut everything from your kinda project to movies, commercials, music videos, etc. The next thing I am cutting is a memories DVD- photos and video clips with a music bed beneath. Some graphics, titles.

If you are using a Windows based system, there are a few packages out there. Premier, Avid Express, and so on.

What do you use?

Cartooniverse

sigh windows, of course.

Gee, I thought you wanted to get rid of commercials, in which case I was going to suggest VideoReDo, which I am working with at this very moment.

I see I read the title completely wrong

I have Final Cut Pro. We were using my PowerBook G4 as an ancillary editing station. I’ve experienced an occasional problem where FCP will not load and I have to reboot the computer. (It’s the only time I have to reboot, so it’s strange for a Mac – at least IME.) Does that ever happen to you?

I’m thinking about picking up Final Cut Studio 5.1. I don’t have any documentation for FCP, and… Well, let’s just say I should buy a copy of FCS and leave it at that. It’s slow going editing on the PowerBook. Rendering a scene could take 15 minutes, where the same scene on the studio’s liquid-cooled dual processor G5 would take 45 seconds. I could really use a more powerful computer for editing. But I can make do with the G4 for a while.

You could probably do the job with iMovie in a pinch. Record your audio/voiceover clip, lay it down, then arrange video imagery (sans sound) as needed.

I don’t use iMovie as much as I used to, but when I use it, I’m still boggled that Apple bundles such high-quality software with every computer sold.

Premiere Pro is probably overkill for what you need (it’s pretty expensive), so I suggest Sony Vegas Movie Studio.

-smile- In my zeal to promote the product I use cause i think it’s Da Best, I have ignored what our friend rjung has reminded us of.

iMovie is a rather powerful bit of software, and may well do everything that you need it to do- and then some.

If you use a Mac, try that first.
