Best Video Editor

I need a program that can capture and edit movies, then export them to DVDs (something similar to Pinnacle Studio 8). Hopefully it will be less than 200 dollars. Thanks!

If you are using Apple, there is the free iMovie.

They are also releasing a cut-down version of their professional software FinalCutPro for about 200 dollars, IIRC.

Also, Avid are bringing out a free cut-down version of Newscutter or Avid Express IIRC.

Avid products are brilliant.

You can probably find an older version of Final Cut Pro or (if you don’t have a Mac) Adobe Premiere.

Why don’t you like Pinnacle’s Studio8? I have studio 7, and i think it works just fine.

PS8 should not cost anywhere near $200…I saw it on amazon.com or buy.com recently after rebate for under $50

Ulead Media Studio Pro.

This is kinda expensive ($500 i think), but it’s so unbelievable–definately worth its weight in gold

When I got a Sony DRu500a dvd writer, it came with enough software to do anything related to this… Spiffy.

Handy…I have the same burner and it came with the same software, but it can’t do all the stuff I need it to do (Image overlays, dual audio tracks+original video audio, DVD menus with moving buttons, recording via microphone, etc). Studio 8 can do all those…it’s an awesome program except for that’s it’s very unstable!

It really depends on what kind of quality you want. Ulead Media Studio Pro has a lot of really nice features, but like Muldoon III said, it’s fairly expensive.

I use Ulead Video Studio 6, and it works great for my purposes. I can capture video, add and animate pictures, text, voiceovers and music. I can also create CD’s, VCD, and DVD’s (you will need a DVD burner). All for around $130. As a post script, I would warn you that I had a terrible time with MGI software, and their tech support costs around $20 per incident.

There is also ULead DVDworkshop. (http://www.ulead.com/dws/runme.htm) It does quite a bit, but this is authoring software. Perhaps thats what you are asking about, e.g authoring software?
