Best way to Shea Stadium? (Poll)

I have 2 tickets to see the Mets beat their opponents on 4/28 at Shea. I’m taking my father to the game and need to know the best way to get there with the least amount of walking. The solutions I have so far are

  1. Take the bus from Freehold Raceway Mall to Penn Station. Walk to the 7 Line to Shea

  2. Drive to Journal Square, take it to 33rd St. Get on the N,V,R line to 78’s and switch to the 7 line (don’t know the safety of the area)

  3. Again go to Journal Square, take it to 33rd St. Use the tunnel to get to 34th and take the LIRR to Shea. (How far is the LIRR stop from Shea and what station is it called?)

Any options I’ve missed?

Driving to Shea is NOT an option

Is taking a bus from Jersey to Port Authority an option or no? If you could get to Port Authority easily, it would eliminate the walking distance to the 7 that you would face from Penn Station. That is usually the way I have gone when I go to Mets games. Enjoy the game!

On edit I see that you are willing to drive to both Freehold Raceway Mall and Journal Square.

My suggestion is to drive to a central Jersey town with bus service to Port Authority. Ride into Port Authority, walk down to the 7 and ride it out to Shea.

Don’t worry about the safety issue. You go from downstairs to upstairs and never set foot outside the station. There will also be hundreds of other Mets fans on the train, so it will be no more dangerous than Shea.

LIRR will be more expensive if $$ is an issue.

From Penn Station, you can take the E train to Jackson Heights -Roosevelt Blvd/Broadway (74th Street). E is express in Queens, so that is a bonus. You can switch to the 7 train there.

The N -> 7 switch is at Queensboro Plaza.

Practice!

I’ll show myself out

Yes. The bus will go to Port Authority, not Penn Station.

I’ve always taken NJT to Penn Station, then the LIRR to Shea Stadium Station.

DAMMIT!!!

DAMN YOU TO HELL!

North until you smell it, east until you step in it?

You can also take the LIRR from Penn Station to Shea, as I just did tonight. It cost $6 at rush hour for a 15-minute ride, which is obviously more than the subway, but it’s faster. You can make that trip in reverse too, obviously, but Mets fans tell me it makes just as much sense to take the 7 back to Manhattan, to either Times Square (where you’re only a few blocks from Penn) or Grand Central Station.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Because I’m trying to limit the walking I think the LIRR route will be best, although I should try to limit my expenses because my car was totaled last night (Future post to come)
