I’ve been reading some very good things about the Austrian film Goodnight, Mommy and M. Night Shamalamadingdong’s The Visit.
Who’s planning on taking either of these in? Who’s excited?

I still like M Knight Sham but that one looks kind of boring
I just saw Goodnight Mommy in LA two hours ago! I really liked it. It was annoying me after awhile until the OHHHHHHHHHHHH moment. If anyone wants to discuss, I’ll use spoilers for the details.
The trailer is entirely misleading.
Goodnight Mommy has been selected by Austria as the film it’s going to submit for this year’s Foreign Language Film Oscar.
Very cool!
One thing to point out-- not a plot spoiler but some background about the title–
The original title is “Ich Seh, Ich Seh”, I see, I see. It’s in reference to The German game, “I see, I see, what you cannot see…” much like the U.S. “I spy with my little eye…”
Good Night, Mommy looks promising but The Visit’s PG-13 rating means the horror’s gonna be lukewarm, if present at all. This one is aimed at youngsters, as Shamayalan has said
We’re seeing The Visit tomorrow - There’s something about the trailer with the “WIll you get into the oven” that just makes us have to see it.
I just hope to be entertained for the 2 hours.
If Good Night, Mommy is going to be good - we’ll find a way to see it next - I don’t recall the trailer for it right now.
Blood and violence are not necessary for horror. There’s a difference between disgust and horror. If anything, I find excessive violence to be a detriment to creating a compelling horror atmosphere. Horror movies with lots of blood tend to be schlock.
I’m excited to see Goodnight, Mommy, but MNS? I can wait for him at Redbox. The one that I’ll see on opening night though is The Final Girls. I know it’ll probably be more comedy than horror, but it looks so good the premise has me psyched. Much interesting stuff on the horizon.
Saw Goodnight, Mommy yesterday. From a horror buff perspective…ehh.
Beautifully photographed and exceedingly well-acted, quite eerie/spooky for the first 2/3s, then veers downward into highly unpleasant torture-porn. And the twist ending barely twists.
Final Girls is pretty great. I saw it at SXSW, I loved it, as did much of the crowd. But you’re right, it is more comedy than horror.
I saw The Visit and it was what it was: a nice suspenseful film that will freak out the average 13yo, bore a 25yo, and again become “scary but not too scary” for us 40-somethings. And it’s short too… about 90 minutes long.
Except for 1 or two shots, not gross at all, and definitely not torture porn.
I just opened a thread about the movie. I think people are seeing it as a “twist” movie when i think that’s not really what it is at all. Go see the other thread and read my spoilered comment. we can discuss there.
There was a time when I would have been excited. Now I am old, and will wait for the non-spoiler reviews before I make up my mind to spend my money.
