I recently got slightly into Saltybet.com during downtime. It’s a site that streams the game Mugen 24/7. Which is a fighting game that has a ridiculous amount of custom, fan-made characters for it. Ever want to see Spiderman fight Buttercup from the Powerpuff Girls? Well, it’ll probably come up eventually!
The catch here is that all characters are controlled by the AI. So that super powerful character that always wins? Its AI may not be smart enough to know how to hit the really short character with a small hitbox. Or maybe that useless Dragonball Z character will do 1 damage to the opponent and then fly off the screen and win by time-out instead of getting beaten up like they usually do.
When you register, you start with 400 Salty Bucks, a completely fake currency. You bet when you find out who the characters are. When betting is over, odds are calculated (it’s simply the ratio of dollars bet on one character vs dollars bet on the other), and if your character wins, you get returns.
You have a minimum amount of money, to prevent you from being unable to play, this starts off at $10 and the minimum slowly goes up as you bet on more matches. Or you could pay a small fee and become a member of the Illuminati which has access to character stats and always has a minimum of $666 (or more).
So, anybody want to bet on fake pixel mans controlled by schizophrenic robots with me? Yes, betting on robot gladiator matches, the future is here, folks. I’m sure this won’t be a reason we get killed when the robots rebel. Remember, always bet on DBZ!
