Beta Blockers and Raynaud's Disease

I heard of someone who takes some beta-blockers which are supposedly to treat Raynaud’s. I looked them up and Wikipedia and the Mayo Clinic say they are one CAUSE of Reynaud’s, not a treatment for it.

Has anyone here ever heard of using beta-blockers to treat Raynaud’s? I know I’m supposed to go to a doctor for medical advice but I’m just asking if anyone has ever seen any literature listing it as an indication for beta-blocker’s, or calcium-channel blockers. I can’t find any. Everything seems quite the contrary.

Hmm. I have heard of Procardia ™ used for Raynaud’s (which I have, BTW, but have never taken any meds for). I am off to work, but will try to dig around there (nice data base there) and see what I can find.
Or was it persantine?

I’ll check.

You’re correct insofar as beta blockers are a definite risk factor and/or precipitant for the development of Raynaud’s.

Perhaps paradoxically, they can be used to treat/prevent Raynaud’s as well. Here is an old, but informative paper.

Calcium blockers are commonly used as a treament/preventative for Raynoud’s. However their efficacy in this regard may be less than generally appreciated.

I, too, have Raynaud’s. I don’t know about Beta Blockers, but I wonder if there been any research done about the use of anti-seizure medications as a treatment? I ask because I take Lyrica for nerve pain and have noticed that not only don’t I have symptoms of Reynaud’s now, but my hands on occasion get too hot and flushed. It’s as if the blood vessels in my hands are more open now instead of spasmodically closed off.
