Better light-bulbs do exist!

I’m not trying to make any case about personal liberties in general. I was responding to mister nyx’s assertion that sugar bans were imaginary. He was factually incorrect. Sugar bans may not yet be bleeding over from schools into society at large. Certainly it will take more than one article in Nature with a doctor trying to get Congress’s attention. But it is factually incorrect to say that there are no sugar bans.

OK, Irishman, but I still contend that those sugar bans are no more relevant to this discussion thread than my personal household ban on The Red Sesame Street Muppet Who Shall Not Be Named. Neither are “bans” in any meaningful context of a discussion of things one’s federal government ought or ought not to ban or be allowed to ban.

I bought a Sylvania “Ultra” LED to compare with the Philips. It won’t dim down to zero either; when dimming down they cut out at the same point, when dimming up the Sylvania “fires up” first. Both throw light up and down, but still look odd in some fixtures because there’s no light coming directly out between the top and the base. Neither could be mistaken for incandescents in an A/B comparison, my sister could pick out the difference right away, but the Philips is closer, the Sylvania is much more pinkish, “CFL-ish”. The Sylvania is only rated for 25K hours instead of 50K , and says it’s OK for non-recessed enclosed fixtures, wheras the Philips says no enclosed fixtures.

I’m still waiting for GE to put out a 60 watt eqivalent to play with, Home Depot has a store brand I might try next. I still use nothing but incandescents in my house, but I like playing with cool technology, epecially lights.
