I’m sad. She had a tough life when all was said and done, and I can only hope that, in her later years, she understood and appreciated what an influence she had on a lot of popular culture.

It’s interesting that she didn’t get into erotic modeling till she was in her 30’s. I wonder if that would be possible today, other than amateurs posting on the web.
Sorry to see her go.
The very enjoyable film The Notorious Bettie Page portrayed Bettie as an innocent who just didn’t think there was anything wrong with nudity, and considered the “erotic” photos she posed for as a silly goof. As far as I know, Bettie herself was OK with the film, and watching it might be a good memorial.
Good journey to you, Dark Angel.
[Steve Martin] “All those nights when I used to hold her picture up with one hand!”[/Steve Martin]
I think the quote was actually about Farrah Fawcett, I was just channeling Steve and wondered how many other guys my age (58) walked down high school hallways carrying their notebooks in front of their crotches because you’d been looking at Bettie pics in Study Hall?
Come on, you “senior citizens”! Time to fess up!
Seriously, I understand she spent her last years very happily on a farm, and I count myself a fan of this very mysterious beauty.
Q
Amazing beauty, hope she had a good life.
*Goodbye Bettie Page
though I never knew you at all;
you had that girl-next-door appeal
even when dressed in leopardskin and tied to the wall
Goodbye Bettie Page
from the young man with the vintage magazines
who admittedly never saw you as anything other than sexual
but who still thought that you were incredibly keen…*
Beautiful adaptation, Terrifel.
Let’s hope she wrote her memoirs, because sexual appeal aside, this was a woman I would love to have spent an afternoon listening to.
