Betty White Hosts SNL

Ouch, Jay Z is really screwing up one of my favorite songs.

Seems like it, right?

BTW, I really liked the CSI: Sarasota bit.

And this census sketch with Tina Fey is pretty funny.

Agreed - those were the two best bits, IMO.

This was by far the best episode of SNL I’ve seen in a long, long time. Was there a single sketch Miss White wasn’t in?

Loved it. So surreal, snl being funny. Was it because of Betty, the writing, or what?
I don’t even want to watch next week now.

Agreed. Betty White did an awesome job! Celebs who appear to be too “busy” or too “important” to learn their lines or do more than just show up when they host SNL, as if they see it as being some kind of heavy burden just to be on the show, should take a lesson from her. Not only did Ms. White know her lines, she participated in every sketch she appeared in. She is such a class act! Very, very good episode.

Wizard of ass.

TheKid and I enjoyed the episode. Betty White looks almost identical to my Nana, salty mouth and all. I liked the ‘old timers’ coming back - Maya Rudolph (although her Whitney could have stayed in the writing room) especially.

Yes, CSI Sarasota rocked! I was LOLing…Also at the lesbian one…for some reason I got the vibe that was a spoof of Fried Green Tomatos.

I was very sad they didn’t…How could they NOT? It’s a CLASSIC…and that retarded Andy Samberg digital short did not count. Andy Samberg is not funny at all.

I can assure you it was no Ashley Simpson…

Keenan was good in the scared straight parody.

Another “Even with the ‘Is there anything funnier than when an old woman cusses and makes pussy jokes?’ gags Betty ruled”. The Census sketch was the best, in part because it went for comedy rather than just bad language and non-old lady like stuff. I’d hoped they’d do one of their '70s Game Show sketches as she’d have been perfect*, but it was okway without it. I was worried that she’d bomb since even for a 44 year old live TV would be daunting, but at twice that the kid’s still got it.

Embarrassing admission and question: am I the only one who wasn’t familiar with ‘muffin’ in that context? (I knew ‘muff’ as in ‘muff diver’ but somehow hadn’t heard muffin.)

That said, her new sitcom looks absolutely dreadful, but she’s one of that small group of stars that includes James Earl Jones and Hal Holbrook: she’s crap proof. She could guest star in a melodrama art house film about white supremacist lesbian wrestlers in the Dust Bowl and would walk away still beloved.

On the topic of Jay-Z, that the word ‘bitch’ slipped through exactly once in 99 Problems certainly suggests that*, no, there was no lip syncing - at least on Jay-Z’s part. And at no point do either he or Bridget Kelly appear to be syncing - if they are they’re doing it very well.

  • … At least, I think so…it’s possible he said ‘trick’ twice, but I’m 99% sure the first was ‘bitch’.

Probably. Aerosmith sang “You ain’t seen nothin’ till you’re down on the muffin” in “Walk This Way” way back in 1975.

I only caught the end of the show, unfortunately. I’d been meaning to set aside time to watch it tonight (I don’t have DVR), but I was at a retirement party far longer than I wanted to be.

Watching her tonight made me want to send *her *a mother’s day card too.

I guess you weren’t there then

Don’t know about the Jimmy Kimmel part, but she and Dick Van Dyke posed in some dominatrix/S&M gear for pics a few years back. I can’t remember the magazine, but it was an article about how the Petries were the first couple on TV you knew had a great sex life, and Paul Newman was best friends with Gore Vidal for more than 50 years so I’m guessing all kinds of bad language and weird sex were grist for the conversational mill.

ETA: Pic. (That really was them- they didn’t just photoshop their heads onto other bodies.)

I thought this was the best show of the season and it was streets ahead of the episodes with Ryan Phillipe and Jude Law.

I kind of figured they were going the old lady with the salty language route and called out the Dusty Muffins the first time she said muffin, but hey, it worked for me. Betty White’s monolog was very funny and though it was apparent that she’s not moving very well, it was also clear that her mind was very sharp.

The scared straight skit was pretty funny but it’s ending was the best. I don’t mind those sketches, but they’ve been ending them exactly the same way for as long as I can remember – with the inmates getting away and doing something criminal. Betty yelling out “Wizard of Ass” was way funnier.

It was also good to see Maya Rudolph as well. My wife noticed that she was pregnant, which according to the Google is true. I tell you my wife’s pregnant-dar is as acute as her gaydar.

yes, you’ve made it clear that you have double-special inside information and that you don’t agree that he lip synced. No need to double respond to a post hours apart, unless of course you want to underscore how super special your information is.

Jealous?

Betty White was great. Unfortunately, 95% of the show consisted of recycled sketches that are way past their sell dates. But that’s par for the course on SNL.
