Beware, PurpleBear is on the road again!

Just giving everyone fair warning!!! PurpleBear,RoseBear, and a freind will be on the road early in the am. They are heading for Joplin, MO. to meet up with PB brother who will then take RoseBear to Ohio, to be with here husband(PB’s other brother)! They are supposed to be travling straight up I-35, but with three women in the van to act as navigator they could wind up anywhere. So if you are out and about, be on the look out for them! Drive defensely!!
PurpleBear should return to the boards on Sat.

I already have my crash helmet on, and I believe I will quickly deliver her a GPS (they will probably still get lost).

I wish you ladies the safest of trips, and I’ll talk with you when you get back!!!

First of all, dear. My darling, precious hubby… :stuck_out_tongue:

We’re actually going to take I35 up to Dallas, then I75 up to Joplin. So, be looking for us along that route. And, rosebear’s hubby is my younger brother, and our other brother is the oldest, for those of you who are wondering. My friend is a real sweetie to take the bus to SA from Houston, just to help me out, so I won’t be driving home alone on Friday. And, btw, she’s one of the one’s who has been plotting to take out her hubby.

Anyway, I’ll be back on Sat, and rosebear will be on as soon as she gets a new ISP and unpacks her 'puter. Take care, ya’ll and be good. Or, at least be careful.

Ok, now, pipefitter, my dear. How shall I say this? You’re a fine one to talk, and I could tell some stories about you. So, be nice, and remember who’s been lost the most times. Hmmmm??? :stuck_out_tongue:

Message from my friend: We can’t get lost; we’re not the ones who are too macho to stop and ask for directions. Need we say more?

Rosebear adds: We can’t get lost. We’re the ones who DESIGNED the maps! You know, the ones you ‘men’ never look at.

Just to be safe, let’s set up a checkpoint on the New Jersey Turnpike. If purplebear makes it up this far, we’ll be sure to catch her and set her in the proper direction.

:stuck_out_tongue:

Just FTR, um, I-75 doesn’t go anywhere near Missouri. It does go through Ohio, though. Perhaps you meant 35 to Dallas, 44 to Joplin and through to St. Louis, then 70 to Dayton and 75 to wherever else in Ohio you’re going?

LL

Ohmigawd; does this mean they’re already lost? And I don’t think a GPS would work; too technical.

And Purp, just to beat you to it: “Phhhhhbbbbbbttttt!!!”

Oh, and btw LL, I like your handle; another Heinlein and Adams fan!

I know I’m gonna regret this but I can’t resist!
Purp as you should know has been lost for a long time now! :stuck_out_tongue:
<looks around for a place to hide>

Roadtrip update!

They’re in Muskogee (sp?) Oklahoma, shooting for Joplin by 7pm.

Everything has gone smooth so far.

Thanks for the update Vestal Blue, at least they did end up taking the right freeway.

And taking 75 to get to MO, it must be those female designed maps again, and you wonder why us men never use them!!!

BTW, with your maps, how many times did you have to stop to ask for directions?

Hey, PB, (and RB), good luck on the trip! My best wishes go with you all.

Thanks for the update VB! Glad to hear they are on the right road!

Update 1310 local. On I75, just crossed into Texas, heading for Sherman. Tired, but doing well. Mission accomplished.

1510 update.

Preparing to get on I35 south outside of Dallas. Moving fine!

For your information, my dear pipefitter, we never ONCE asked for directions, or had to resort to the maps, other than to tell us what the next town was, and how far from us when someone needed a potty break.

We made it home at 1:20am CST on Sat, Oct 14th. And, Friday the 13th’s rep is still intact, you’ll be happy to know. The best laid plans, and all that. About 20 min or so after hanging up with VB, my left front brake started squeaking like something was being killed, slowly. Loudly too! We stopped in McKinney to ask a mechanic at a gas station/shop his opinion about making it to SA. He said it would make it just fine. The further down the road we got however, the LOUDER the screams got. Obviously, some poor demented soul was in a lot of pain. <Yes, I’m really, really tired. Why do you ask? ;)>

Couldn’t take the screams any longer by the time we reached Waco, so stopped at the local friendly WalMart, only to discover that they don’t do brakes. :frowning: Midas was closed, Sears was too busy, Pep Boys could fit us in on Monday, etc. You get the idea. We were both starting to whimper, and contemplate how much change we had on us for a hotel room for the night, or if there was a park nearby.
That’s when we met Jesus.
No, I mean it. He is a nice, kind person who works at Wally World in the auto dept., who overheard our plight<or whining as the case may be :p> and said he would be happy to see if he could tell us if the van would make it to SA or not. When we got outside, he said that he works on stuff like that in his spare time, and would be happy to help us out. So, we hung out for an hour til he got off work, then followed him to Auto Zone and then his house. He then changed the front brake pads out in his front yard while we sat on his porch steps and watched. His pretty young wife looked out of the window at one point, shrugged her shoulders as if to say ‘there he goes again, rescuing someone else’ and went back to whatever she was doing.

He had only asked for $20 to do this, plus the pads <no, not Kotex, get a life!> but we both felt that was unfair. After all, he had saved us a great deal of time, normal labor charges, and the cost of a hotel room. I did my best to give him $50, but he refused. Finally, grudgingly, he was persuaded to accept $40 for his time and trouble. He gave us his card, and said if we knew anyone else who might be passing through Waco and needed help, he’d do what he could. Another side note: My friend and this kind man both live on a street that has the same name! Now, if anyone thinks this was merely coincidence, they need to wake up and smell the exhaust.

We just happen to see that particular WalMart and go to it. There just happens to be a man working there by the name of Jesus <Hispanic pronounciation> who just happened to walk by at the right time to overhear our plight, and just happened to have the time tonight to help us, and just happened to live on a street with the same name as my friend’s <I’ll call her Wyliebear and get her to register yet!:D> street in Baytown. God is good.
We’re taking our tired tushes to bed now, and be back on here sometime today. I apologize for any errors in this, way too tired to preview this again. G’night, and God Bless.

Nice to hear that there are still good samaritins (sp?) out there.

I’m glad that you actually found someone (or he found you) to look at and repair your brakes!

I myself know that there are good people out there, because I found one at a K-Mart when I had car trouble coming back from up north a while back.

I’m glad you guys made it back safely, just next time bring ear plugs or just turn up the radio!!!

THespos: :stuck_out_tongue:

LazarusLong42: Ok, ok. I meant State Hwy 75, which runs North to South between Dallas and Nebraska. We took that from Dallas and then State 69, up to I44, then 44 over to Joplin. Picky, picky, picky.

VB: I only have one thing to say to you. Where’s the cream for that? :stuck_out_tongue: Smarty pants.

You’d better hide, my dear. Keep it up, and even after you get home, you won’t be getting any from me. Not without a lot of groveling first!

Thanks, Daniel. It was nice to hear from you again, haven’t seen you around much lately. That big secret job of yours must have you working some really weird hours of late. So, when are you coming back to flirt with me again?

And, pipe, dear. Keep making wisecracks like that, and you’ll find yourself sleeping in the dog house the next time you come to visit us. wicked grin

Oh I don’t think so, unless you been get’n it on the side:D
<maybe I should go back and reread that roommate wanted thread you started!!> <love you>

Ummmm…do dreams count? :stuck_out_tongue:

I love you too, dearest.

And, what about my roommate? You don’t know what services they’ll provide. VB is doing an excellent job right now. I may extend his option for a bit longer. <Sorry, StrTrkr and the rest> :stuck_out_tongue:

Hey purp, I’m used to being in the dog house, so I guess I can continue with the wisecracks!!!

hijack!
And seeing this might be my last post for a while, it’s been nice being on the board, and if any of you want to know how I’m doing, you can e-mail me (purp has it or it’s in my profile), and I’ll look and write when I can get to the library!end hijack!

We now return you to your regularly schedualed program (sorry about the hijack, Karyn, please forgive me). :)
