Beware! Ultra Cute Wild Animal Pic to follow: Look what I saved!

Anyone want to see what I just saved from being ravaged by a Maine Coon Cat?
Check it out!

It’s a sparrow, very common. But we have a particularly boisterous maine coon cat that lurks around our home, and today he decided to pick a fight with the wrong sparrow. My cat’s like to watch their redneck T.V. or birdfeeders, and today our female cat began to chatter away like flipper…I went to investigate and caught the faint glimpse of a large maine coon swatting a sparrow. He got him alright…but I went out and shooed the cat away, and picked up the defunct sparrow. I took a photo of him and here he is poking his head out of the bottom of a shoe box I placed him in. I’m taking him to a local aviary to someone who rehabs these little fellas.

Wish me luck!

Oh and feel free to post other pics of cute animals you may have saved, or have at home. This could easily become a fun pic thread…

Cute one. Did the cat break the skin anywhere you can see? Birds are pretty susceptible to infection from cat claws and especially a cat’s mouth. If he bled he’s not out of the woods just yet.

Here’s a fellow we saved a while back:

That is the cutest little snake!

Pretty bird. Nice photo, too.

Yes, the photo is special. You get struck by it, so to speak.

I’m a cat guy, I’d have probably been rooting for the Maine Coon.

Hey, I’m a cat person, too, but I’d be rooting for the bird.

Birds doing fine. The guy at the aviary said a couple weeks of TLC, with plenty of food and the bird should be fine. There are no puncture wounds…Lucky little shit

This showed up on my back porch a couple of years ago. Weighed eight pounds, vet said he would have starved to death in a week (not a hunter by any means). He weighs 16 now and fits in with the rest of the family just fine.

What a cute House Sparrow, Phlosphr!

I caught these budgies in the wilds of central New Jersey. Martha turned out to be boy.

Come on, everyone knows Redneck T.V. is a bug zapper!

Awww! We rescued a baby mockingbird once, and raised him until he was able to fly away (which he did). We called the little fella Atticus. Every time I see a mockingbird in our yard, I wonder if it’s our baby coming home for a visit.

During the time when we had the bird in our house, our cats were fascinated by the loud birdy chirps. They are indoor kitties, and I think they halfway hoped that we’d brought home a bird for them. When we wouldn’t let them enter the room where Atticus was being kept, the cats were very peeved.

Awwww, how do you raise a baby mocky-bird? What do you feed them?

Ugh. Don’t post pix of snakes without warning!!

Wait, shouldn’t he be a Finch?

Mock apple pie, mock turtle soup, etc

I’m gonna get kicked outta this thread

On the advice of a friend who has raised baby birds, we fed him raisins, egg yolk, Gerber baby food, and cat food. Of course, we were careful that the little guy never saw the label on the cat food, since he might be thinking “You Are What You Eat.” Feeding him was easy. Baby birds are accustomed to having their food poked down their gullets by their mother’s beak. We used some long tweezers to insert food into Atticus. It was cute to see him open his gaping maw and squawk for his dinner. As soon as someone entered the room, he’d start making loud “feed the birdie” noises and opening his mouth as far as it would open. Gee, I miss Atticus. But letting him fly free, once he was able to do so, was the right thing to do.

Sailboat, I’d love to hear the story of how the snake was acquired. I have fond memories of pet snakes that I used to have. Can’t have any these days, since hubby doesn’t care for 'em.

I am trying to save this.
More info in this thread. I’m trying to get a definitive id and some advice. I think it’s a kingfisher.
