Biden's choice for vice presidential candidate

Have you met a lot of Bernie supporters?

The ones that don’t even turn out to vote for Bernie? Those supporters?

He needs to stick to this logic.

With his current poll standing, there’s very little upside to be had from the VP pick. More likely there’s a 4-point swing against him no matter who he chooses, but he can try to limit it.

(massive snips)

Warren might have made a great president, but Biden really needs to go with someone younger for veep. He doesn’t need Warren as VP to enact elements of this plan, and she doesn’t need to be VP to introduce and battle for it.

Agreed. Two white northeastern oldsters, however worthy, are not an ideal Dem ticket this year.

I hope he names a pick soon so we don’t have to hear the silliness of picking Abrams.

I had a dream last night that Biden picked Susan Rice (why yes, I probably am spending way too much time reading and thinking about this). Except in my dream her last name was Cotton. But when I went to her Wikipedia page in my dream (why yes, I read Wikipedia in my dreams), it was Susan Rice’s picture and bio. I remember even thinking, “Hmm, I always thought her name was Susan Rice. Why did I not know her last name was actually Cotton?”

Anyway my subconscious brain apparently thinks it’s gonna be Susan Rice. My conscious brain still wants Tammy Duckworth.

I think maybe the Tom Cotton headlines got mixed into your dream too.

For the record, what I’m about to say is meant to be tongue in cheek and not to cast aspersions on the quality of said candidate, but… “Tammy Duckworth” is a Veep or 30 Rock character, not a serious VP contender.

My money is on Susan Rice. Not all of my money. Just my loose change jar.

I take it by the quotes you mean her name. “Barack Hussein Obama” didn’t have a conventional-sounding name either.

Yep. Just her name. Always gives me a childish giggle. I’m not proud of it.

I’m still thinking it’ll be Harris.

Same here. I’m not sure I could keep a straight face if, four years from now, I’m putting a Duckworth/Hickenlooper bumper sticker on my car.

As long as the bumpersticker said “Re-elect Duckworth/Hickenlooper” I could get through it.

Nope. CA is deep, dark Blue, Harris is too Mired in Police issues, and she insulted Joe.

In this 538 podcast, they discuss the narratives around several possible VP picks. Perry Bacon Jr. thinks Harris is the most likely choice. The others definitely feel she is toward the top of the list. (They start talking about VPs at about the 30 minute mark - sorry to link to a podcast, c’est la vie.) Claire Malone thinks her prosecutorial background might end up being a plus for some voters, as it argues against the ludicrous narrative that the Trump campaign is currently deploying (i.e. Biden and leftist radicals will throw the country into anarchy).

So, nope to your nope.

(Personally, I am not a big fan of Harris, so I hope it’s not her).

Bush Sr. hit Reagan pretty hard in 1980 primaries , Voodoo Economics was his term for Reagan’s plan. Harris going after Biden is not that big of a deal if he wants to pick her. I think Rice is probably top of the list now.

Betting markets (PredictIt, anyway) went sharply towards Harris about 4 hours ago. She’d always been one of the highest bets, but as of now she’s over 50%.

My instincts tell me she’s not a great choice - she ran a poor primary campaign after a hot start, and if she becomes veep she’ll likely be Prez nominee at some point. But we’ll see. Right now I guess my top choice is Bass, and maybe Lujan-Grisham in second. I like Rice fine but we have no idea of her campaigning skills, which makes her a big risk IMO.

You know why, right?

Biden’s “overseen” notes

I hadn’t seen that. We’ll see if it means anything next week I guess.
