Biden's choice for vice presidential candidate

Congrats to Senator Harris. I hope she’s got her heavy duty umbrella ready for the downpour of bullshit coming her way…

Harris was far from my first choice, but she has some big positives, IMO:

-Very sharp and strong in debates and debate-like settings. She’s been excellent questioning witnesses/nominees in Senate hearings.
-No obvious lines of attack (unlike Rice and Benghazi).
-Relatively young and a credible party standard bearer in the future.

I had resigned myself to Harris being the pick over the past week. She’s not my first choice, but I’m actually excited to see her on the attack, and facing off against Pence in the veep debate.

He did no harm, and that’s the #1 rule he needed to follow. I’m happy.

Well. There’s the whole locking up poor people for weed.

I do think that part of the reason for the choice was to appease a good number of independents and moderate Republicans worried about Biden ignoring “law and order” ideals.

Harris, if we can remember that far back, was a candidate for the presidency and lasted through most of the debates. She’s been tested and vetted onscreen. I’ve always been of the opinion that those running in the primary had a real advantage. (Though I wouldn’t have been surprised by almost anyone.)

Also remember that she and Beau Biden had a close relationship. I’m positive that meant a lot to Biden.

Not my favorite for sure, but none of the options were flawless. Like Biden, she was the obvious default choice and like Biden she’s a safe(ish) option.

I’m most concerned with long term strategy. I worry about her ability to campaign in four or 8 years (when she’ll be the default choice) after her weak presidential run. But that’s in the future. I don’t care for her LE background but her impact as a VP will be, like all VPs, minimal unless Biden dies in office. As a campaign choice now, she’s solid enough. Properly prepped she can be an effective bulldog to chew on the Trump campaign - she did fine with that when she was on script.

Meh… I can think of worse choices for de facto President.

Harris was my absolutely least favorite of the lot. I’m surprised Biden has decided he would be comfortable working with her. She’d have made a much better AG, IMO.

Considering the bad shit that went down in Chicago the other night – that plays right into the “lawlessness” narrative peddled by the GOP – it was smart to pick someone with Harris’ background.

Running for president is often about timing. She ran a bad campaign last year. Just like Biden ran a bad campaign in 88 and 08. Now this year, the timing was right, and he ran the right campaign.

So, I guess what I’m saying is, just because she ran a bad primary campaign against, like, 20 other people, with a less-than-stellar campaign manager, it doesn’t mean she’ll be a bad campaigner in 4 or 8 years.

This should not matter, but it does: Harris could pass as say Italian rather than black, and for some people that will make it easier to accept her. THIS SHOULD NOT MATTER. But it does, and it will, and add that to all her legitimate positives and she’s a fine pick. A fine pick in any case, but an extra boost and we will need all the extra boost we can get to win despite every dirty trick the opposition will throw at us.

I wish, I damn well wish it were not a consideration, though. Her race isn’t an issue with me, it isn’t with lots of voters, it’s indeed a plus with lots of voters – but we need to corral every vote we can, and my cynical self says it’s a bit of weight to add to our side of the scales. Even if it’s no more than a bundle of feathers (and I’d like to believe that, but…) it’s still helpful.

That’s a line of attack from the left. It’s laughable from Trump.

Worst choice possible.

Well it is what it is…now they had better ride this chit to the White House. Or we are gonna see more nights like Chicago last night…

If he picked Ghlisine Maxwell, I’d still be voting for him.

Although, Kamala is very popular-- among democrats. I’m wondering how the GOP news will first attack her. And what support she’ll get from other important congresswomen.

What a great pick. The only thing I don’t like about is that it takes a Democrat out of the senate. But that’s me being selfish. She is going to strengthen this ticket in big, big amounts. Previously, I didn’t care if there even were debates this time around, but now I can’t wait to witness what she does to Pence.

I’m curious why you think so. Elaborate?

Fair. She has time to right that boat and it really depends who she’s up against. I think she has some flaws in presentation but some of those may be correctable and at least she’s a known factor unlike someone like Rice (who I would have preferred in a vacuum) who would have been a total crapshoot.

I bet she makes him cry.
