Big announcement day (10/21/10) for college hoops recruiting

Three top high school players are planning on making announcements this afternoon on ESPN regarding their college committments.

#4 overall HS player, Quincy Miller has narrowed his picks to Louisville, Baylor, Marquette and Oklahoma.

#10 overall HS player, LeBryan Nash has narrowed his picks to Baylor, Oklahoma State and Kansas.

#50 overall HS player, Duece Bello has narrowed his picks to Baylor and Louisville.

There seems to be a lot of love for the Big12. Anybody care to take a guess where they will end up?

Things I hear point Nash to OSU, but I’m an OSU student, so I don’t hear about why he’s sold on elsewhere.

His brother (Byron Eaton) starred at OSU in a different position and he came to many games then, so that should help.

But I just don’t follow recruiting well.

I have heard that Nash is likely to head to OSU as well for the reason you stated. Interesting that Baylor is the single common school among all three, which is rumored to have picked up Miller and Bello…and possibly all three.

Scott Drew (Baylor HC) must be one hell of a recruiter. And he has shown the ability to develop talent…(Ekpe Udoh who was a lottery pick in the NBA draft this past year).

It’ll be interesting to see what happens later today.

Announcements made:

Nash to Oklahoma State

Miller and Bello both to Baylor

I think I saw an ESPN Outside the Lines episode that said Baylor has started to hire AAU Coaches as Assistant Coaches. These AAU Coaches are Coaches/Mentors of top basketball prospects.

I guess the assistant coaches are disposable after the kid leaves school. But it does give the AAU Coach a foot in the door.

I saw the episode at least a year ago, so I might be a little fuzzy on the details.

I think the one you are referring to was Baylor’s hiring of Dwon Clifton, one of John Wall’s AAU coaches. Of course, John Wall didn’t go to Baylor, but ended up at Kentucky. Kansas also has done that in the past with the hiring of people close to Danny Manning and Mario Chalmers. Clifton left Baylor this past year to be an agent/personal trainer for John Wall once he got drafted into the NBA.

Wall’s AAU team D-One sports (that Clifton was a coach of) is the same AAU team of Miller and Bello, who committed to Baylor yesterday. Sounds like good recruiting.
