I thought we might separate the inevitable discussion of coaching changes from the other CFB thread (since it wasn’t labeled “omnibus” this year:p).
At this point it looks like we have these definite openings:
Florida
Tennessee
UCLA
Arkansas
Ole Miss
Oregon State
Georgia Southern
Kent State
UTEP
South Alabama
And these probable openings (among others):
Nebraska
Texas A&M
Looks like Florida is probably going to get [del]Chip Kelly[/del] [del]Scott Frost[/del] ?Willie Taggert?
I also predict that since no one else wants to go clean up the mess at Tennessee that they’ll end up hiring Lane Kiffin… ok maybe not.
Why do you say Nebraska is only probable? Nebraska fired Bo Pelini with a .713 percentage winning record and replaced him with Mike Riley who has a .50 percentage winning record–and now has a brand new Athletic Director Bill Moos.
Only because it hasn’t been officially announced. Of course the current rumor is they already have a deal with Scott Frost so I assume it’ll be announced soon.
Chip Kelly’s probably going to UCLA. He knows the conference and his Ducks recruited heavily from the LA area when he was their coach, so it’s familiar territory to him. I’m wondering if Florida doesn’t try to go after Scott Frost or even, gasp, Lane Kiffin.
What about FSU? Jimbo Fisher’s act is getting old and the team has disappointed this year. They’ve consistently underachieved, even worse than the late Bowden years.

Well he did win a National Championship like 3 years ago!
The latest in Carousel Rumors is that Gus Malzahn could leave Auburn to return to his roots at Arkansas (and closer to The Cowboys where he really wants to end up) in which case Jimbo could jump to Auburn.
I have a hard time believing Malzahn would leave if Auburn keeps winning, though. Has a coach ever left a reigning national championship team other than retiring?
USCDiver: Except for the Florida rumors, and perhaps others not yet being floated. The only good bet is that Frost is going somewhere bigger right after next week’s conference title game.
It would be nice if the job didn’t require coaches to stoutly deny they’re leaving right up to the minute they announce it, but they do have to do that in case the deal falls through somehow.
I know he’s an alum but I’d think carefully about that move. Nebraska’s not the big show it was under Tom Osborn. It’s definitely possible to have the occasional 10-win season but what Huskers fans want is a championship and they’re not being reasonable in their expectations. They want Nebraska to dominate like they did in the Big 8 days, and it’s just not that easy now.
Same for Gators fans - which is why I suspect Frost might go somewhere else as yet unrumored, or even stay at UCF. Both those jobs are just coach-killers now and I’m sure he knows it.
Maybe it’s time for the B1G and Big 12 to swap Nebraska for West Virginia, and let them both recruit better in their more natural regions.
