I enjoyed this episode, even though it was not quite as funny as I had hoped.
I am really glad that the evil Wil Wheaton got the better of “Sheldon and his C-Men” again. He needs to be Sheldon’s ongoing nemesis! I wouldn’t mind if they did a couple of Wheaton episodes per season; and, of course, he needs to meet Barry Kripke!
Upcoming guest star appearance:
I’ve heard that Mayim Bialik, who played the title character of the TV series Blossom and then went on to actually get a PhD in neuroscience, will have at least one guest spot as essentially a female Sheldon. I can not wait for the repartie!

Well, that should be interesting!
That was the redemption of the episode. Raj in a Catgirl costume.
I wonder if they got to choose their own costumes? The characters, I mean. Was the assignment of costumes made by Sheldon et al, or Wheaton et all? Because any way you look at it, Raj/Catwoman was rather…different than the others.
I believe the winners got to choose how to embarass the losers.
I loved Whil Weaton in this episode and Sheldon’s insistance that their team name is “The Wesley CRUSHERS!!!” and not “The Wesley Crushers” (sigh of love).
I like this episode, it’s always fun when Sheldon gets his comeuppance. I am not really a fan of Leonard and Penny.
Conflict is the key to comedy in this show and you don’t have any conflict between Penny and Leonard. It’s quite obvious Leonard only likes Penny 'cause she’s hot. Too often the only time the characters interact is to say something that is in the others world. And then it’s obvious Penny studied up to relate to Leonard and vice versa. While we can see why Leonard likes Penny, what is she doing with him? The only answer seems to be, she’s been dumped before so she’s trying someone different than usual. That’s fine but it’s hardly a good thing for Leonard. If it wasn’t him would she try someone else different from the others who dumped her? Probably.
Leonard and Penny has gone on for a year and that’s problematic. You either have to have the characters get married or move in together or do something, if you let them stay as is, they both are boring. Which neither one is. Leonard certainly wasn’t boring with when he had the doctor girlfriend or dated Leslie Winkle. So why is he boring here? Because we can see a reason why the doctor and Leslie liked Leonard and why he liked them. They were equals. Here with Penny, Leonard comes off as a whimpy guy, desperately trying anything to hold the hot chick.
Then we have a bit more of the “bromance” of Raj and Howard which as been done to death already and been done on other shows (think “King of Queens”) much better. Clearly neither Raj nor Howard is gay, so why milk it. It was funny once or twice, but it’s starting to get offensive. I mean would you have a white guy trying to act black all the time?
The danger is do you change a winning format and risk having it tank? Or do you keep the winning format and have it grow stale?
I had an epiphany last night about Sheldon (which you all have probably had long ago) - when he tries to engage in put-downs, he’s terrible at it. When he’s just talking with people and interacting in his Sheldon-y way, he zings people most excellently all the time.
I don’t know - what was wrong with "First, is your Mother a good bowler or a bad bowler?
Maybe I’m slow, but what in the hell does this even mean?
Yeah, he does it best when he is not really trying, doesn’t he?
Once he attempts to self-consciously go into “zinger mode”, he will almost inevitably fail in the attempt!
So, my DVR was on the fritz…how can I find a full ep? Hulu just directs you to CBS, which only has clips.
Thanks for what I think a spot on analysis. Whatever the correct solution, IMO TBB writers haven’t found it. And if they don’t stumble upon is soon, they’ll lose me.
The writers keep playing Raj and Howard off each other as though they are a boyfriend and girlfriend. Sometimes it’s outright, like when Leonard’s mom assumed they were a gay couple, and sometime’s it’s implied like when Howard took Raj to the tar pits to make up fro being a jerk about something.
The “bromance” is a meme I hated with Joey and Chandler in *Friends *and it’s not getting any funnier.
Ah, then I guess we’ll have to disagree because I think it’s funny. And I’ll tell you why. It’s funny because both Howard and Raj have women in their lives. So it’s not strictly a bromance. Howard has Bernadette and Raj has scored with a handful of girls since the series started (including Winnie Cooper, we’re not worthy Raj!). Which is a pretty big subversion from the usual bromance game (Chandler was basically celibate until Monica).
Hey, don’t forget how well Raj was doing with Summer Glau until he realized that he had been drinking fake alcohol (in the second season episode, “The Terminator Decoupling”)! That was hilarious!
I guess I find the girlfriend like interaction to be whinny and co-dependant. It is funny when Howard realizes how it looks/sounds and reacts to that.
Chandler celibate!?! What about Janice? And his boss who handcuffed him to the chair? And the woman with two other boyfriends?
OK, my DVR cut off just before the end. Is aw Penny run off and Wil imply he did it on purpose. What happened when they came back from the commercial?
Our four heroes, having been bested in the noble art of bowling, endure the humiliation of entering the comic book shop in the garb of super heroines (Sheldon = WonderWoman, Leonard = Super Girl, Howard = Bat Girl, and Raj = Cat Girl). Will Wheaton is not there, but the guy behind the counter mocks them.
