I really liked the conflict that actually drove them apart.
When I read the spoiler a couple threads ago that they would break up my first thought was “I really hope it’s not a dumb reason.” Dumb being Leonard’s “I’m a nerd!” and Penny’s “I’m not” continuity, and some stupid argument stemming from that. It ran the risk of being really childish. I think it’s a very real problem that splits them apart. Even the point the Wheton made about stringing along, and the effect it had on Penny was very real to me. I don’t like them breaking up (again…Ross and Rachel redux) but at least it was a real reason.
, No, Leonard’s mom said they were in an ersaz homosexual relationship. (fake one) Speaking of which I really think Leonard’s mom is loosly based on Temple Grandin
You know, when Penny & Leonard get back together (yes, when, not if), this gives them a reason to join Sheldon in his “Wil Wheaton must die” crusade. EVEN if Leonard might be inclined to let Wil off, Penny will be on the verge of learning how to say “Revenge is a dish best served cold” in Klingon.
Your opinion. Joey/Chandler was one of my favorite relationships on that show.
Huh? Just off the top of my head… Janice; the hot married chick he met at Joey’s play; the girl who accidentally called his answering machine; Janice; Kathy, who previously dated Joey; Janice…
They joked about Chandler not being good with the ladies, but he was still gettin’ some.
I don’t remember ‘the girl who accidentally called his answering machine’
I remember the girl whose answering machine he was scared to talk to because he thought he’d leave a stupid message, and then he kept staring at the phone waiting for her to call after he’d finally left a message.
. . . And two of the regular shoppers look creepily enthralled. . .
My prediction: Penny out-Sheldons Sheldon and wreaks painful and permanent revenge on Wheaton. (Who is taken by surprise because he really thinks he’s “in” there.)
The dynamic will fall out: Sheldon = Spock, Leonard = Dr. McCoy, Penny = Capt. Kirk. Sheldon will be humbled when he realizes this. . .
Both, and it’s good. I really think the writers put the show in a corner with Penny and Leonard hooking up. This show is about pathetic lonely nerds and it has to stay that way to be funny.
“Ohhhh Wheaton, it was never off.” - I love that line and am sooo going to steal it.
One of the show’s earliest running gags is that whenever Chandler starts dating Janice he wants to instantly break up with her again. Because… OH! MY! GOD!.. she’s a nutball.
I don’t remember “the girl who accidentally called his answering machine”
Chandler and Kathy date for two episodes, and in the second episode, they break up.
Wheaton has commented on how much he likes playing an evil version of himself, so I see him coming back a couple of times next season. I’d guess that he wins the next encounter too, but so pisses Penny off by humiliating Leonard that she absofrakkinglutely destroys him in the last encounter, leading her to realize that she really does love Leonard. But he will have moved on (temporarily) so we get Season 5 with a reversal of the dynamic. Sadly, they get married in Season 6 and the show is never the same. It is canceled at the end of Season 7.
Seriously. Characters need to grow and change. Unlike the thoughts of one poster, I do not believe that the show can stay funny or interesting if was a frozen show about “pathetic lonely nerds” - that would be boring … or depressing … or both. Failing relationships, struggling relationships, evolving relationships, changing dynamics … bastardizing Woody Allen: sitcoms are like sharks, they’ve got to keep moving or they die. And again, a seven year lifespan aint bad.
It was early on, season 1 or 2 I think. There’s a wrong-number message from a woman looking for an old boyfriend named “Bob,” saying she regrets breaking up and wants to get back together.
At Joey’s urging, Chandler pretends to be Bob on the phone and arranges to meet her at the coffee shop. When Bob doesn’t show up, Chandler moves in to “console” her. And it actually worked!
Considering it is basically an actors real name, and Wil Wheaton was suprised and pleased by the webiste according to his blog, I’m suprised there don’t seem to be any copywrite issues. Not that Wil would give them any grief as he would love to do another episode.
Well, if that ISN’T a CBS/Chuck Lorre productions sanctioned site, I’m guessing it’ll come down soon anyway. If it is, (which seems very unlikely), they no doubt got all the permissions they needed.
Yes, it’s my opinion. And I’m perfectly willing to admit I have no taste and practically no sense of humor. I just didn’t like the “romantic relationship” as a template for all relationship interaction.
I really like TruCelt’s idea that Penny will be the one to seek and succeed in getting revenge on the evil Wheaton. Given that she can get info out of the comic book store guy pretty easily, she should be able to track down evil Wheaton. Perhaps she will make him shave, and he’ll be good (if annoying) Wheaton?
Not to hijack this thread, and I realize it is pure speculation, but how much do you think Wil Wheaton would be paid to appear on an episode of Big Bang? I would guess the main actors are making $50 to $100 k per episode by now.
