I just started watching this show this summer. It wasn’t exactly what I’d suspected, especially given the creator. I like that if focuses more on the guys than on the budding relationship with the cute girl across the hall, although even that has it’s interesting moments. Sure, the stereotypes of the main players are a bit over the top, but there some truth in there, and if they toned them down they probably never would have been able to sell the show.
Would love to hear what others think about this one.
We love this show. It’s on the Tivo list, even though we rarely miss the broadcast. We both know too many people just like the characters.
I thought the show was going to be crap based on the premise. Boy, was I wrong! Clever writing, good actors, no “I got this job because I’m pretty” actresses, nerd humor galore, and a whole closet full of new t-shirts to find and buy. What more could one ask for?
I started watching it over the summer and I love it.
I recommended it to a friend of mine and he couldn’t watch it. He’s currently doing post-graduate work and found the characters to be way too similiar to people he actually knows. The characters are definitely over the top but there is a lot of truth hidden away.
I’m kind of embarrassed to say that I like it. Most of the acting sucks, but the nerdosity of it all is simultaneously refreshing and painful to witness. I love that the Roseanne kids are back together. They’re the only two who can act, as far as I’m concerned.
I don’t think the acting sucks at all! The guy who plays Sheldon is fantastic. I’ve watched a couple of interviews with him and he’s not like that in real life so he really has to ACT to turn into Sheldon (does anyone think he looks like Dave Matthews?)
It’s a good solid show and I am very glad to see it back this fall!
The Leonard character was dating Roseanne’s daughter on Roseanne. The daughter now plays a minor character as a scientist who Leonard has also dated. She is as much a nerd as the other guy characters. Also Rosanne’s sister has made an appearance as Sheldon’s mom.
We love this show in our house. Sheldon gets the funniest lines. Leonard is a sweetheart, and Penny is a realistic pretty girl who isn’t a jerk. I love the episode when Sheldon felt that Leonard’s lie to Penny (to avoid seeing her sing in her musical) was unrealistic and then went completely overboard in his elaborate alternate lie. His “cousin” was hilarious in his acting gig as a recovering drug-addicted dude.
Sheldon really does make the show. But the characters are all strong.
I can’t believe this show is from the same guy that did “Dharma and Greg” (which was good for about 3 episodes) and “2 1/2 Men” (which I’ve tried to watch but cannot.)
I’m a big fan. The acting leaves something to be desired sometimes (except the guy who plays Sheldon), but the writing is fantastic and the different geek archetypes they included are so very true.
I think the Halloween episode is my favorite so far.
Same guy did Roseanne and Cybill, plus wrote the theme song for the TMNT (just to throw in another acronym). FWIW I think he’s just the producer and not a writer, although I could be wrong.
I love this show but missed it last night cause my schedule changed and now I have to work Monday evenings. Dang! Wonder if it’s available for viewing on the internet like some of ABC’s show are. Anyone know?
and I downloaded the theme song - It is by Barenaked Ladies.
