Big Bang Theory 12/15: The Bath Item Gift Hypothesis

Lots of laugh-out-loud scenes in this show, from the beginning where they all looked at the same time to look at the Hot Physicist to Sheldon hugging Penny.

I hope Penny and Leonard can find their way back to each other. No Stephanie, so we assume she’s out of the picture now?

And what a perfect gift for Sheldon…an autographed Leonard Nimoy napkin. She does know her neighbors, doesn’t she!

Ah, there’s the jealousy I was expecting all season from Leonard. Why would Penny expect Leonard not to be jealous since she is the one that said the relationship is over, it wasn’t a mutual decision. Did I miss something with Stephanie? This is a great show but it seems to have a habit of dropping relationships without any explanation.

Just like real life.

The gift exchange scene was the funniest thing I’ve seen in a long time. I think I actually cried.

Did I miss an episode? Last one I saw, Leonard thought things were moving too fast with Stephanie (she even displaced his Bat Signal), and she was manipulating him with sex. Where is she now?

Leonard had a legitimate beef: Penny dropped him allegedly because she couldn’t deal with the intellectual disparity. However, her precipitous hookup with Dr. Studley suggests that her problem with Leonard was that he wasn’t tall and attractive. Makes her seem kind of shallow.

Still, plenty of lines that made me laugh, as usual.

Now, while I’m sure that Penny is aware that they like Star Trek, I find it odd that she would A)know who Leonard Nimoy is and B)Recognize him sitting in a restaurant.

I turned on the ep maybe 1-2 minutes in. I cracked up that the guys were all wearing bowling shirts and Sheldon even had one of those wrist things bowlers use to keep their wrist straight. And I caught Raj rubbing the Wiimote with a towel. Thought that was a good gag. I thought I took my Wii bowling seriously…

The beginning was so much like a Straight Dope thread that I could see it!

The ending was hysterical. Sheldon’s reaction. Jim Parsons’s is quite the physical comedian.

Sheldon: All I need is a fuctioning ovum and I can clone Leonard Nimoy.
Penny: Well, all I’m giving you is the napkin.

In a restaurant, if you were serving a famous customer, someone would know and tell you, even if you didn’t know them. Also, we only see occasional glimpses into the characters lives. It’s been close on a couple of years now. Surely she’d know what Star Trek is and that Sheldon is a fan. Women can be observant that way.

Besides, it made for a great scene.

They were slowing things down. It seemed like that episode left it with them anywhere from “friends with benefits”, aka the occasional booty call, or somehow still involved but less serious than live in girlfriend.

The difference between Leonard and Dave is stark, as much in attitude as looks. Dr. Dave lives in Penny’s world, hard drinking, hard playing. He’s not a proto-geek nor is he defined by his job.* Even though he is super smart he is still accessible and doesn’t make Penny feel “dumb”.
*I don’t know that many physicists, so not sure if this type actually exists in the wild or more just in television and film writers’ minds.

I thought Leonard and Penny broke up because he found out she flunked out of community college, made a bit of a condescending reaction out of it once he found out, and Penny felt he thought her stupid.

So I’m guessing no BSG fans watch BBT? My friend and I both recognized Dave as Anders.

When Penny made the reveal about the wife, I immediately said out loud, “Starbuck!”

That was a great episode. I had to call my mom and brother and have them check out the Wii bowling scene as thye both love Wii bowling.

Sheldon’s reaction to the napkin was hysterical. He brings out all the gift baskets and Penny says, “Oh wow.” and Sheldon’s response with, “I know it’s not enough.” really hit my giggle button.

I think that’s a testament to Sheldon’s arrogance. He knows he’s highly intelligent, there’s no way Penny could out-gift him.

Until she did.

While the ending with the napkin gift was priceless, I also enjoyed the opening argument among the boys about Superman, super sweat and Kryptonian pit stains! I think that some of the best scenes involve the geeky repartee in the school cafe.

This also wasn’t as Sheldon/Penny based as the last few episodes.

I thought Leonard might have messed up again when he gave Penny “101 Science Experiments for Kids” or whatever the exact name was. Isn’t that a bit insulting?
Loved Sheldon’s reaction to gettting the Nimoy autograph, and his awkward hug of Penny. He was, dare I say, emotional.

The science kit was just as useful as the motorcycle lessons. Think they were just fun joke type gifts.

What I don’t understand is that Penny had Sheldon’s gift before they met Good Looking Cool Physicist.

Just popped in to say: I love this show.

It’s just rum. It quit being nog an hour ago.

Maybe she exchanged her original gift for Leonard after he got hurt.
