Big Bang Theory: Cylon Toaster

The highlight of last Monday’s otherwise lackluster episode was a toaster with an image of a cylon on it, complete with oscillating red eye, that would actually imprint an image of a cylon on your toast. I wondered whether such a marvelous device was available to the general public and was pleased to discover that the CBS Store does indeed sell it.

yes, a little disappointing. not up to the level of the last two eps. Still there always seems to be something to enjoy here, even in a not-so-good ep. I loved the way Sheldon knew football because he was from Texas. So, so true. You kind of absorb football by osmosis in some Southern locales.

The whole Leonard/Penny/Friends interaction was badly done. So many different ways they could have gone with that, and they picked the most boring.

Also, “ways of frying non-chicken meats so that they resemble chicken” or something to that effect.

Can you give some examples?

Personal opinion here. They could’ve a) had Leonard bond wiht the guys to the point that Penny was the outsider, or b) had the guys interact with Leonard in some fashion. As it was, they could have been mannequins. Continuing, they could have had c) Sheldon arrive and make some uber-insightful yet rude comment based on his childhood absorption of the game, and then get entranced by the physics of it all, or d) Leonard could actually get into the physics of football a little bit.

That’s just off the top of my head. Any of which I would have found more interesting than the way they did it.

I actually thought it was brilliant, the way that Leonard basically spoke about football through Sheldon’s voice: those are the type of things that Sheldon would say, and since the only things Leonard knows about football are what he was taught by Sheldon…

Point of fact, there is a physics professor at NU that teaches the physics of football.

Here’s a bit of info of the shorts they show at home games. The show contacted the university to get allowances to use the logo, you’da thunk that would’ve been an obvious tie-in or interesting plot point… oh, well.

or they could have had Penny and her friends get into kite fighting.

In a similar vein - this will exist soon!

Has anyone done a slo-mo examination of the opening credits to see if the images accurately correspond to the scrolling timeline?

Or, considering this show’s fans,…

When someone did a slo-mo examination of the opening credits to see if the images accurately corresponded to the scrolling timeline, what did they find?

I thought that Leonard obliviously blabbing on about intentional grounding and challenging a ref’s call was hilarious! After hearing Leonard’s “insights” I don’t blame the other people in the room for being in stunned silence. The looks on their faces were enough! In this episode Leonard rejoined the boys in their geekiness and that’s a good thing.

I think the Toaster toaster has been around for a while, actually. Aaron Williams (creator of Nodwick and PS238) wrote about it on his blog, about a year ago.

Here is a slo-mo version of the opening. While the first part of the timeline in showing “40000BC” the images are of stages of life from millions and billions of years ago.
However, when the images get to history, rather than pre-history, the images appear to be more or less in line with the years shown.

SyFy has it for less

I enjoyed the episode, but do agree that the dynamic with Penny’s friends was dull.

My faith in humanity is shattered. And the Space Shuttle before the Pill? C’mon.

Cool song, though.

I think the theme song is by the group Barenaked Ladies. There’s a slightly longer version available.

I thought it was They Might Be Giants. And yes there is a longer version.

Yes I remember well the football obsession in Texas from my half a year there as a youth. I don’t however remember any chicken fried meats. I don’t even know how you “chicken fry” something other than chicken.

Nowadays, restaurants usually call them “country fried”.

I think TMBG & BNL get confused a lot these days.

It’s Barenaked Ladies, and chicken fried steak is quit popular in TX. You basically take a crappy cut of beef, and batter it in flour and deep fry, as you would chicken.
