After watching the DA’s press conference live, it was clear to me that he believed Ben did it.
The context of that quote was that he couldn’t prove the crime he believed Ben committed because the victim (his word) decided not to testify. All he was left with that he could prove was immoral behavior, but you can’t spend the taxpayer’s money prosecuting morals.
Life long Steeler fan checking in. I can see why you have the opinion that most Steelers’ fans think he is being railroaded based upon the sample size of the SDMB but over the last couple weeks a great deal has been mentioned on talk radio and other sports media that Pittsburgh fans are definitely NOT of a single mind here in support of Ben. In fact I’d say the split is rather pronounced and a large number of fans are disgusted and ready to part ways with a rapist on the team. Especially women - and remember the Steelers have (had?) the largest female fan base in the NFL.
At the end of the day, I’m a Steeler fan and admirer of the Rooney family. I think Big Ben did it, I think he is a rapist pig. At the minimum he has horrifically bad judgement and has shamed himself, his family, and the cardinal sin in my eyes - The Steelers and the Rooneys! Players on this team, and in the league, come and go. In my lifetime I’ve seen the Steelers greats retire, have their career end to injury, or be traded away. Players are temporary, the reputation of the Steelers organization and Rooney family are forever. It is time for the Rooney’s to get rid of Ben and move on.
