Big Love 2.4

That was a disappointing episode. The plot twists are becoming too contrived, and the little feuds going on are not very interesting. How can the neighbors across the street not know what’s going on? :dubious:

I still like how Wanda is crazy like a fox, and how Lois is just nutty, though. I want to see Rhonda shipped off to the salt mines… she’s such a manipulative little bitch.

I liked the episode. I liked that a lot of stuff came together and happened in the one room. I like the developing tension between Nikki and her father.

I loved this episode. I would say this is one of the better episodes. It moved quickly and there were a lot of great scenes. (the cheese tape, the scene at Debs, Wanda and Lois) I like that they are using Sarah much more. Although the plot with Albie the creepy stalker is a bit contrived. Sarah’s line “He’s just an uncle” was pretty important.
Benny’s boring but I like what they are doing with Margie and his girlfriend and him.

Did Teeny have a growth spurt or what?

Oh, yeah, I’m just not a fan of the “overheard conversation” plot devise.

But it was very interesting that Adelade (or whatever Nicky’s mother’s name is) is actually protecting them. That’s something new under the sun!

I missed the first half hour (forgot that it was Monday).

Should we be worried about Sarah’s boyfriend? Maybe it’s just his dorky haircut, but he’s creepy. I liked Sarah’s friend stating the obvious, what’s a 28-year-old doing with a teenager.

I’m confused about something. I thought Nickie told Bill last week that Roman was the one who outed Barb. But it seems he’s just now finding out.

I have a bit more sympathy for Rhonda. When you’re raised with deceit and manipulation, how do you learn how to be honest?

Yes, it totally surprised me that Adaleen destroyed the tape, especially after she had just disowned Nicki. Adaleen is an interesting character and I’d like to see more of her.

Did you notice that Rhonda stole her roommate’s jacket? I wonder what else she took from the Henricksons/the runaway shelter. Good luck to her trying to survive outside of a place where $24 in food stamps is a lot of money and it’s okay to just take whatever you want because you’re marrying the prophet.

Loved the stuff with Wanda and Lois and the gun.

Lord, I am. I once overheard a conversion two people were having about me. Had a *profound * effect on events thereafter. It really does happen.

She didn’t like hearing all that crap about how everything with Rhonda was her fault. Remember, she’s not really First Wife. She only assumed the role. I think she had no choice but to disown Nikki because of the compound rules. But destroying the tape was her way of saying “Fuck you!” to Roman.

I was pleasantly surprised…given Bill’s run of luck lately, I was sure he was going to set off a metal detector and wind up in the slammer.

What do we make of Bill’s fascination with video poker? Does “Viva Las Vegas” mean he’s getting into gambling personally? Or does he just see it as a good investment?

(btw…I had some interesting online conversations with BYU football fans prior to the 2005 Las Vegas Bowl. I came away with the impression that gambling is not necessarily a big No-No to all Mormons.)

I agree that this was an excellent episode. Lots of stuff that has been simmering around came to a boil. And I love angry-defending-the-family Nickie.

Wanda pulling out the gun, pointing it at Bill (so for a split second we think she’s going to shoot him), but then handing it to him right there in the courthouse, was hilarious.

I liked the episode a lot too. Margene continues to be tremendously entertaining. Unfortunately, her choice to lie about being a surrogate backfired. I’m more shades of gray they are revealing in Nikki. Last season, she seemed to be a one note bitch who the audience was encouraged to hate.

I thought it was a good one too.

The show was lagging for me a bit, but the last two episodes have sucked me back in. They’re not showing us much to like about Bill this year.

The “cheese tape” was hilarious. Everyone on the show is just torn in every direction. . .loyalties to expanded family, immediate family, society, the church, all conflicting – it’s really interesting right now.

I remember thinking about that, too…probably a bit of resentmet festering there. You could definitely see it in the way she treated Rhonda last season, too.

About Rhonda–she stole Sarah’s iPod last season, too. She’s a lil klepto, isn’t she?

Has anyone noticed that we seem to be seeing more of Bill interacting with the kids? Last season, I thought he came off as a bit cold as a father, except when you saw him taking Ben hunting. He just didn’t seem to care about the younger ones, but now you see him telling them stories, fixing their toy…I’m wondering if “test audiences” complained about that and now they’re adding it in. It’s not as if he’s changed a father–it’s only been two weeks since the last season ended. Hmm.

Re: Sarah and her boyfriend. It might seem creepy, but somehow I’m not getting the vibe. Especially since it’s clearer now that she’s the older of the two, so she’s probably more like seventeen, maybe eighteen. Plus, since it was Heather who was objecting to it, I can’t help taking the creepiness factor a little less seriously. It’s not that Heather isn’t right about things, it’s just that she’s a little too self-righteous, has that black/white view of the world–like when she wanted to save Rhonda last season. I don’t think she’s quite able to see the big picture.

I was wondering how Wanda got it past that same detector. Surely Utah isn’t so old fashioned as to not have metal detectors going into courthouses.

And Sarah’s boyfriend turned out to be Mr. Wimp. He just sat there and let a stranger (as far as he knew) fondle the chick he was with. I think Alby will be dead before long.

I’d like to see a plot-line where Roman and Bill have to allign forces. A takeover attempt from one of the exiles who makes Roman look like Mr. Rogers, for example (ala Ervil LeBaron v. Rulon Allred) or one of the Kingston clan (probably the richest and most generally uckwardly fupped polygamous sects- also the most inbred). I’d make him another grandson of Prophet Orville (Bill’s grandfather) but one whose violence isn’t implied.

Yeah, I thought the same thing. Why wasn’t he all “Who the fuck are you!” and “Get your hands off her!”?

I really thought Alby was going to blow his brains out while sitting in his car on Bill’s street. I forget-how many wives/kids does he have? Or is he still single? When Roman burst in on him in the middle of the night he was in bed with a woman, with a few other women around them. Wives? Sisters?

Did anyone catch the preview for next week? Did Bill really check out the waitress’s ass? Are they gonna go the “will he want to take a 4th wife?” route? I can’t decide if that would be an incredibly lame or awesome plotline. I’m leaning towards awesome though. The 3 different reactions from Barb, Margene and Nicki would be entertaining to watch. Especially Nicki.

We noticed that in the preview too, Greywolf73. If so, what is he thinking?

Hi,
I really loved this episode- the only problem I had with it was Margene- first she almost deliberately (IMHO) mis-hears Nicki & Rhonda’s conversation and then she responds to a fairly nice gesture by Pam (the neighbor across the street) by telling an obvious lie about being a surrogate mother. I like Margene though, I think now that she has tried flexing her assertiveness (i.e last week’s shopping trip incident) she is trying a little to hard now to be proactive (protecting Rhonda, protecting her reputation, etc). I thought she was going to tell Pam the truth and I was really disappointed in her that she didn’t.

Nicki’s character gets to show a different side every week- she has become my favorite despite her manipulativeness. My heart broke for her when Adaleen disowned her. When I saw Adaleen destroy the tape though, I really felt she was trying to give Nicki a new chance in life- that by disowning her she was freeing her from any obligation to keep the peace. Both Nicki and Adaleen made efforts to restore peace between Roman and Bill and watched Alby destroy any chance of that. When Adaleen asked Roman if he was really serious about continuing the charges against Bill and destroying his daughter’s family, you could see that she was very disturbed. Then he tops that off with blaming her for the loss of his child bride- which she has every right to resent but she went out of her way to make sure Rhonda came back to the compound the first time.

Laugh-out moments- Wanda in the courthouse and Teeny asking Rhonda “What’s wrong with you?”.

I don’t know what possessed her to do that. Doesn’t she think Pam will get a little suspicious when she has the baby and keeps it? Of all the dumb lies to tell.
