I love Roman (as a villain, I mean) but a power struggle twixt Bill & Alby & a Dark-Horse candidate (one of the Greens or Bill & Joel’s uncle {who’s rich and the son of the last prophet}) would be cool enough to sacrifice him. I still think Rhonda is going to miss the spotlight when Roman dies and end up in cahoots with Alby. Nicky will be a field marshall regardless of whether she supports her husband or her brother- that woman could teach Cleopatra lessons in intrigue.
As for poor Teeny, she fell through a vortex opened when they broke ground for HomePlus on that Ute encampment and is now, much to her own amazement, she’s wandering the streets in 1878 Deadwood. Could be worse- if she’d landed in 1st century BCE Rome she’d probably be sold as a slave to Atia.
snort Vortex. As long as she meets up with Al first, she’ll be fine. Now if she’d fallen into Cathouse, I’d hope she can run like heck.
Nicki will ALWAYS grapple for the reins of power. She doesn’t learn her lessons very well (I’m having some stuff sent to your house, Wanda), but she’s tenacious, vindictive, and stubborn. I laughed out loud when Rhonda sent her running, though.
In many ways, I think things have gotten more interesting with Roman out of the picture. The ensuing power struggle and the shaken-up beehive is fun to watch.
Has anybody addressed whether we’re coming up on the season finale or yet another “series finale”? My BF pointed out last night that the previews for the upcoming final shows aren’t indicating that this is a season finale, and we’re worried the show is going away again…
The tragedy is that that stupid show, John From Cincinnati, bumped Big Love to Mondays, which knocked its ratings down. That’s like taking a watermelon out of the fridge to make room for a jello salad.
I swear: I have tried several times to figure out what in the hell is going on with that JFC show. Every time I try to watch it I feel like I’m in an insane asylum!
I’m just irked Milch decided to play with that show instead of Deadwood. (IIRC, HBO decided not to go for another season because Milch had JFC in the works and is notorious for flaking, but I could be wrong.) JFC even had much of the cast of Deadwood and I still didn’t like it. Glad to hear this will be a season rather than series finale, though.
(blushing) Thanks! I’d forgotten how much fun it was here, occasional timeouts and all. I like discussions that go beyond “OMGWTF Ben is so cute SQUEEEE!!1!!”
Anyone else notice how much Alby’s wife and Rhonda look alike? Are they related? Wait, that’s too broad a question for compound life. :dubious: …Are they closely related, like sisters?
Ben cute? I guess the actor who plays him is fundamentally a handsome guy, but everything about the character - his posture, attitude, speech, demeanor - seems viscerally unattractive to me.
…but I didn’t say I thought he was cute. My point was that I was enjoying a discussion of a show that went beyond the putative “hawtness” of any of the characters. (FTR, I think he’s a FLK.)
Seems like the people on IMDB got something right for once. They were speculating about Heather and Sarah being lesbians, mainly due to the last scene of “Eclipse.” I thought it was groundless. I’m pretty sure Sarah doesn’t feel that way, still, and Heather may not be at all–Rhonda may just be saying it…but the implication is out there. I’m kind of torn.
Rhonda really does know how to push buttons. She always knows what will hurt people the most. She’s better at it than anyone else on the show and she’s still pretty young–makes you wonder what she’ll be like when she’s Nicki or Adaleen’s age.
I thought Nikki’s best line was she referred to “that uppity thing” that Barb does – in an admiring way.
This season saddens me…last season, it seemed like it was a plucky, happily polygamous family struggling to hold their secret life together (and battling the evil Compound People). This season, they’re falling apart.
My favorite thing about Rhonda…is how half of what comes out of her mouth is purely parroting what she’s hearing from April. She’s always talking about “Telling My Story” and “Bringing and End to Polygamy” – in caps.
IMO, the way the show begins with the cracks appearing in the ice between all of them foreshadowed what was going to happen to the family. After all, drama gets the ratings, right? I can’t remember the last time I saw a show (unless it was a Waltons rerun) where the family was simply doing something fun together and having a good time as part of an episode.
It seems to me that Rhonda’s mocking April and “the cause” while she’s playing it up. She doesn’t believe any of this crap, but it’s getting her what she wants (for now). It has been thoroughly entertaining to watch her inner vixen emerge from her cloak of whipped cream.
Rhonda doesn’t strike me as bright enough to engage in mockery. She’s cunning, manipulative & evil, but kinda dim. I agree that she doesn’t believe the crap, but she’s spouting it, not mocking it.
I get the sense that she doesn’t exactly have strong beliefs. As in, she doesn’t think of Heather’s parents as doing the right or wrong thing. It generally boils down to what’s good/bad for her.
She’s had an awful life, though. That episode where they’re considering leaving her at that home for troubled youths, or whatever it was…it was fairly heartbreaking. Her situation is awful, but she is so cruel to everyone around her. Why exactly did she want Sarah there that badly, anyway?
