Nitpick: The name of that band is Talking Heads (as they explained in an LP title).
I will add to the chorus of raspberries for “Bennie & the Jets”, one of the laziest songs ever to top the charts… I actually find it easier to listen to if I think of it as a parody. (Apparently Elton doesn’t like the song much either.)
No mention of “Do Ya Think I’m Sexy?” yet? (I really do feel that Rod Stewart was great for awhile, so for me, this one qualifies.)
I love the Smashing Pumpkins, but “Everlasting Gaze” and its a capella part just drives me crazy for some reason. ETA: Also, from their pre-jump-the-shark days, “Disarm” never did anything for me.
Count me as another person with reading comprehension problems. Ok, HIT song that I hate by an artist that I like, not any old freaking bad song by a successful artist that I like…
Can’t really use Pink Floyd. They had some hits I didn’t greatly care for (Money, Another Brick part 2) but I don’t rush to change the channel or skip the track or anything. And that’s the way it is for most of the artists I like — they have a few hits (generally not oodles of them) which I often think inferior to some of their other songs, but seldom do I hate them.
I’ll go with the Rolling Stones’ “Jumping Jack Flash” which is an annoyingly stupid song and overplayed to death. Gas gas gas…
With a name like yours, you’re obviously a Gabriel-era Genesis fan. My pick for this thread is Invisible Touch…that’s when I knew the band had jumped the shark.
I called up the radio station once to complain about how I was sick of hearing it. The DJ said I should work there. He has to listen to it 8 hours a day! (They have to play whatever is on the “charts”.)
In college theatre class, the class twit came in and put that song in the CD player and started rocking out. The rest of the class – alt-rock/college/indie fans all – gave the guy the coldest “are you fucking kidding me?” look.
It was a great moment.
I also hate that song. Bad music. Ridiculous, juvenile lyrics. Video with band members and some bimbo posing around seductively. Yeah. Lots to hate.
Yep, when a music video featuring Bobbie Brown makes you change the channel, you know the song truly sucks. Jani Lane himself has said, “I could shoot myself in the head for writing that song!”
Which reminds me: Whitesnake. Started out as a great blues-rock band, though few people realize it. Even their hair-metal albums from the 80’s had some great rockin’ numbers, such as “Still of the Night” and “Crying in the Rain”. But then came “Here I Go Again”…
