Depends. Does he do it often? Say, often enough for it to be the most notable thing about him?
True, we better step it up a bit.

Here’s the serious response:
You know what the word “most” means, right?
Thank you Lord and Savior Jesus Christ

I’m guessing it’s more to do with the difference between “has been seen with” and “makes a point of being seen”.
Polamalu is like walking past a gaggle of nuns on the street. They just happen to be there. Tebow is more like the friggin’ Witnesses at your door, or at least the screaming preacher with the sandwich board.
I know what the word “most” means. But why are people taunting Tebow and not Polamalu? THAT is my point.
And why is Tebow’s action excessive, but Williams’s not? (if anything, Tebow’s is boring)
DianaG – I can’t remember if it was only that once or not. Point is, people have been talking about it for years – that’s what most people remember about Tiger Williams. BTW, the reaction was positive. The crowd loved it. Goal celebrations are pretty common in the NHL. “Tebowing” would be mild.
(Once again, I’m not a fan of Tebow, I think he’s over exposed, and I’m tired of hearing about him.)
Guin, *most *people don’t remember anything about Tiger Williams, since they don’t know who he is. I’m sure that he’s mostly known (as much as he is) for that, and I’m sure the crowd loved it, it was entertaining.
If he did it every time he took the ice, I’d know who he is, because people would be mocking the everloving fuck out him.
Do you think that Polamalu’s actions are as obvious as Tebow’s? There are differences in physical obviousness as well as additional actions that Tebow does that we just don’t see Polamalu do. For example, the eye black and bible references, the starting any press conference with the words I am now using as my signature, etc. etc. etc.
My first response was just a joke. Many would call those types of celebrations excessive, many people make jokes about the people that do them.

You brought up the point that he was at WORK, DianaG. So was Williams. Excessive celebrations in sports are common place. Even though the atheletes are work, as you say.
As far as being over-zealous – I’d say the eyeblack, yeah, that’s obnoxious. (It also negates the purpose of deflecting the glare). Starting every sentence with “I’d like to thank Jesus…” that’s over-done.
However, when we’re talking about his actions on the field – people seem to be acting like he’s some obnoxious jackass because he goes to the side to pray. Big deal. In the world of sports, that’s pretty mild. (And if he celebrated by swinging a lightsaber around? Yeah, I would think that’s cool. Although he’d have to pretend – props aren’t allowed in the NFL. So if he pretended to swing a lightsaber after a touchdown, that would be awesome)
I’m more annoyed about all of the coverage of him, period. I watch a lot of sports programs, read alot of sports news, etc, and it’s like, all they talk about is Tim freaking Tebow. You’d think he’s the second coming of John Elway.
I’m also starting to sound like I think there’s a war on religion – which I don’t believe. I don’t want to give people that impression. I DO think people are making an even bigger deal over this than necessary.
It does sound strange when you put it like that. But is he alone in putting messages or symbols in his eye black? Do other players do this? I don’t follow sports, so I don’t know.
ETA: Answered my own question. Yes, they do!
Polamalu wasn’t credited with winning six games in a row, just him and God doing all the work.
I’m finding it difficult to believe that people here don’t understand that people who are splashed all over every media outlet known to man might get made fun of. Does Polamalu have any sort of press that equals Tebow’s. He does fucking Head ‘n’ Shoulders commercials, ferchrissakes.
Dear people who have a problem with Tebow praying,
Turn off your TV.
Sincerely,
Some random internet guy who finds humor in watching people whine incessantly about a guy doing something they choose to watch him do
Dear people who have a problem with people who have a problem with Tebow praying,
Turn off your computer.
Await further orders. ![]()
Or because some Christians who took their Christianity seriously were the ones who changed the social norm? The anti-slavery movements in Britain and the United States began with Quakers.
Yeah, but look at his hair, it’s freaking gorgeous.
Besides, your point about Tebow being all over the media is one thing I was talking about earlier. THAT is my main problem with him, and it’s not entirely his fault – the guy is majorly over exposed. I’m tired of hearing about him, period.
Dear random internet guy: We are laughing at him. We are mocking him. We are holding him up to ridicule. Random internet guys apparently find that annoying, so they choose to perceive us as whining. We laugh at random internet guys as well.
I don’t think you do find humor in it.
If you did you wouldn’t want us to turn off our TV because that is the source of our material.

I’m agnostic, so I am no expert.
It was explained to me that the Pharisees were harboring unjustifiable feelings of moral superiority because of their public display. “See how much more devoted I am?” They also felt that God favored them more because of their piety. And that only they were good enough to do or view some of the more holy ceremonies.
It’s the feelings of moral superiority (or elitism) that Jesus decried, not the public displays themselves.
I guess that’s why we need ministers, priests and a church hierarchy; to interpret scripture that never seems to mean what it appears.
I don’t know about the NCAA, but it’s prohibited in the NFL.
