Catholics aren’t literalists. You can quote the Bible all you want at them, its a book meant to be interpreted. Which is why you have the Catechism.
Whether the parents are homosexual or not is immaterial. They are still committing child abuse by sending the child to a religious school.
Unfortunately, in some places a private school is the only option for a good education. And a religious school is the only option for a private school.
Sigh. Psychology and medicine manage to transmit the shit down the family tree just fine. Not only is there no “need” or “duty” to punish people about the mistakes of their foreparents, it’s bloody stupid. The part you quoted is a phrasing of what I’d already said, only with more generations. And if you think people don’t pay for the mistakes of their ancestors, including collateral ones, you haven’t read any of the threads on lousy families. I would like to invite you to spend some time with the sonabitch of my maternal grandfather, his wife who justifies his sexual agressions (it’s always the fault of the person he’s attacked), or his two daughters who, after surviving growing up in that house, placed their own children in the line of fire; I’d add the bitch of his mother, but she’s already dead.
1.) Not all Catholic schools are this whackjob. My Catholic high school and university, e.g., both had Gay-Straight Alliances.
2.) A lot of public schools, especially in large cities, are pretty fucked.
3.) Sometimes your only option outside of the poorly funded (or poorly managed) public school is the whackjob private one.
So Catholic school was good for you because it has a gay alliance. If it doesn’t it is a whack job Catholic school? Did your school have the alliance for gay students or students of gay parents?
Let’s not debate this in MPSIMS, please.
So would it be fair to say that O’Reilly is a righty, but not necessarily tighty?
Not sure where you’re going with this. My point was in response to the OP’s incredulity that a same-sex couple would send their child to a Catholic school–note, not to a conservative Catholic school, but a Catholic school, period. I was just demonstrating that there do exist Catholic schools that don’t treat LGBTetc. students themselves as pariahs (and, by extension, LGBT parents, as well).
And if you don’t think that suspending a child because her parents are lesbians *without *visiting similar sanctions against children of parents who sin in the eyes of the Church in other ways is whackjob, I’m not sure we have anything to discuss here.
Why can’t someone be both a Catholic and a homosexual? Just because they grew up into something the church rejects, that doesn’t mean that they reject the church they grew up in.
This.
Bill O’Reilly is most certainly a big loudmouth, but does not swing as conservative as many people seem to think.
And even if you’re not willing to accept my opinion on Papa Bear, remember that even a stopped clock is right twice a day.
Someone quoted the Bible above:
Astronomers, geologists, and paleontologists are in real trouble…
I don’t get your point. Are you saying Catholics should ban your children from attending Catholic school because your grandfather was a monster, in accordance with the vengeful old testament god?
