So what didja think? The artists he interviewed seemed to think it was up to the parents to keep the kids away from their stuff, and that otherwise they were just “entertainers” doing their thing.
IMHO, (as a 52 year old grandpa of 2 who loves South Park), that’s a very though job, watching your kids 24/7 to make sure they don’t get exposed to the violence of grunge and/or rap.
So what’s the answer? O’Reilly didn’t really seem to have one as he ended his program Thursday night. Still I’m glad he showed what he did. One portion that sticks in my mind was one of the Insane Clown Posse telling a young fan of 12 to go ahead and do a crime before he turns 18, so as not to get prosecuted as an adult, or to “go home and smoke somethin’!”
You are right, it is impossible to keep them from being exposed to violence and whatnot, but you can limit their vulnerability to being manipulated by it.
You can teach your children to be skeptical consumers of media. You can teach them values by setting a good example and being a constant presence in their life. You can make an effort to talk to them about the images they are exposed to. You can offer them guidance and perspective. You can engage them in debate and teach them to be independent thinkers.
I watched for about five minutes. It seemed really sensationalistic (er, that a word?) to me- I mean, look at the title. Ooh la la. Corruption…youth. <yawn> I suppose it was too moral for me. Protect your kids from the dangers of pornography.
Oh yeah, he did mention an 8 year old pornography addict, getting treatment, and how sad it was. That’s kind of amusing, in a creepy sort of way, but do you guys think there are a lot of kids out there getting addicted to porn, or this just an isolated incident? Note- Mr. O’Reilly did NOT use a cite.
All I needed to know about this program, I learned from the title. Am I the only one who heard the title and immediately thought, “This is just the latest Seduction of the Innocent-type nonsense”?
Bill O’Reilly’s show was so biased…it was probably A LOT of editing…oh yea, he’s full of crap too. I only watched the wrestling part and you can TELL it was heavily edited. Ugh, I hate him…
