Bill Oreily show (10-11-2011)

Has anyone seen tonight’s show? I just got a call from a person I was in rehab with. I fear the person has fallen from the wagon and I’m going to try to help. Anyway, this person was carrying on something awful about some supposed data base to which medic personnel, pharmacists, law enforcement, etc. are required to post the names of anyone they even suspect of excessive use of prescription drugs. The person in question was almost hysterical about it and I don’t have a clue as to what she was on about. I’d really like any input I can get about this-----I know it isn’t much to go on.

Thanks and by the way, the title should have included (Need Help ASAP)

I didn’t see the show, but could this be what she’s talking about?

Perhaps a leak in it that was posted online and with her name attached?

I’d guess your friend is concerned about getting busted by the new system. Perhaps not even because of some ongoing abuse – maybe of past abuse by looking at historical data.

That’s gotta be it; thanks a lot.

I’ve contacted her AA sponsor and handed it off to him; I feel really bad but from what I heard, her problem is way beyond my skill set.

She is about as paranoid as paranoid gets and that becomes paranoid^99 when she is drinking. All she had to do was hear about the damn data base and her name, in her mind, immediately made it to the top; probably with the instructions “shoot to kill.” I think I’ll change my phone number and move. I have my own demons to fight.

Her main problem is alcohol but she does take some really heavy meds: Xanax and to her, that’s enough to put the man on high alert.

Thanks for all the replies; I’m going to bed now so I’ll check for more in the AM.

I don’t care about the part of catching abusers, but it sounds from that article that they actually have access to all your prescription information, whether you are abusing or not. It’s not just a system that flags you. It’s one thing for my doctor who is treating me to see what I take. It’s another for some cop to get it, even if he needs someone saying they suspect me. Surely they could just get a warrant if they had probable cause. Heck, every HIPAA document you sign will state that the doctor and workers have the right to give your data to the cops if they are requested as part of a legitimate investigation.

The doctors can check the patients, and the cops can check the doctors without having to actually have names. That makes more sense. But, instead, it sounds like they are appealing to emotions to just get another piece of our liberty taken away.
