Billboard ad for TV show 'Friends': "Cute Anorexics"?

I was watching a documentary on anorexia, and they showed what they made out to be an actual and official billboard ad for the TV show ‘Friends’, which showed the three women of the show and the phrase “Cute Anorexics”.

I laughed when they first showed it, thinking it was actually a fairly clever act of vandalism, then they seemed to indicate it was an actual ad campaign that was quickly pulled (for obvious reasons)!

My question is, did the network actually have the complete lack of taste to make such a billboard? I find it remarkable, especially given the fear they usually have of offending anyone. Anybody ever actually see this billboard? Or were the makers of the documentary fooled by a fake?

My guess it was a promotion by a local affiliate, not network. Truth in advertising at that.

Sad, but true, Revtim.

Padeye’s right- it was an affiliate than ran the original, “Cute Anorexic Chicks” campaign. The responsible party for this lapse in judgement was NBC affiliate KDLT.

Here’s the story.

See if I ever watch their station again.

Ignets.
