They weren’t traitors. They were wrong and terrible, but they were standing up for their traditions, the same ones every US President, Congress, and Supreme Court before A. Lincoln had explicitly defended.
Calling them traitors not only misses the point, it implies that you’d condemn others as traitors for wrong-headed reasons. [/rant]

Traitors commit treason. Treason has a specific definition in the Constitution:

I suggestion that rising up in arms against the country is insurrection. It becomes treason when a declaration of war is involved (check) and/or attempts are made to enlist the aid of or join with foreign powers in overthrowing the country.
On this later point, I daresay the confederates qualify as traitors for their (fortunately futile) attempts to draw in France and Britain against the Union.
The US is itself, of course, the product of treason - against the British Crown.

You really think “rebel yell” is on the same level as the CBF, Klan, etc.? It seems like we might as well ban the term “The South.”
And, unless I am misremembering the song, Billy Idol never gives anything like an actual yell. Sort of a “Yeeeeeahhh!” at one point.
So even from a position of disgust at almost 100 years of selective interpretation of the Confederacy, race hatred and violence… this one’s ridiculous.
