Just like Dukes of Hazzard, definitely not influenced by a desire to re-emerge into the spotlight from former irrelevance. (That is if what you say is accurate.)
Damn you OP.
But I’m happy that it’s not actually true. By the way, check out this 1930’s clip of Confederate veterans doing the rebel yell. That’s would be some scary shit to hear coming at you.
Very clumsy CGI work replacing the Confederate flag with Trinidad & Tobago’s though.
Hey, I don’t have “Rebel Yell” stuck in my head.
I understand that they’re doing last-minute reshoots on Star Wars Episode VII in order to make it about the ongoing struggle between the Empire and the Kettle Alliance.
He’s recording a new version of “White Wedding” as we speak…
In related news, Turner Entertainment has decolorized The African Queen, as well as retitling it The African-American Gay Person.
When we stop honoring racist traitors.
Some Day… when I’m a LOT more desirable than I have ever been… I intend to handcuff a Beautiful Woman to the headboard of my bed and… play that link…
They weren’t traitors. They were wrong and terrible, but they were standing up for their traditions, the same ones every US President, Congress, and Supreme Court before A. Lincoln had explicitly defended.
Calling them traitors not only misses the point, it implies that you’d condemn others as traitors for wrong-headed reasons. [/rant]
Good OP. Made me laugh.
If rising up in arms against the country is not a traitorous act, the word has lost all meaning.
Traitors commit treason. Treason has a specific definition in the Constitution:
Show me where the Southern states levied war against the United States!
Oh, wait… :smack:
I suggestion that rising up in arms against the country is insurrection. It becomes treason when a declaration of war is involved (check) and/or attempts are made to enlist the aid of or join with foreign powers in overthrowing the country.
On this later point, I daresay the confederates qualify as traitors for their (fortunately futile) attempts to draw in France and Britain against the Union.
The US is itself, of course, the product of treason - against the British Crown.
But then,
"Treason doth never prosper: what’s the reason?
Why, if it prosper, none dare call it treason. "
“Rebel Yell” is also the name of a bourbon whiskey. I doubt they will change THEIR name.
Was expecting this.
You really think “rebel yell” is on the same level as the CBF, Klan, etc.? It seems like we might as well ban the term “The South.”
And, unless I am misremembering the song, Billy Idol never gives anything like an actual yell. Sort of a “Yeeeeeahhh!” at one point.
So even from a position of disgust at almost 100 years of selective interpretation of the Confederacy, race hatred and violence… this one’s ridiculous.
You have clearly not watched the specific version linked to by the OP.
