Bingo - there was a farmer…

There was a farmer had a dog,
And Bingo was his name-o.
B-I-N-G-O
B-I-N-G-O
B-I-N-G-O
And Bingo was his name-o.

Was the dog’s name Bingo?

Or the was it the farmer’s name? Hmmm…

The dog.

The nursery rhyme is based on a Scottish drinking song with the line…
“The farmer’s dog leapt over the stile, his name was little Bingo.” The dog is the object of the sentance.

In early drafts of The Lord of the Rings, Frodo was originally named Bingo. But he wasn’t a farmer and he didn’t have a dog, so I don’t know why I’m mentioning this.

There was a hobbit had a Ring,
And Bingo was his name-o.

I think an irreverent follow up post is totally justified in an irreverent thread.
