You guys realize curlcoat is insane, right? She is a sad, broken, batshit creature who has made loathing children a center of her existance. The mere presence of children on this earth is like a personal attack on her. Each time a child is born, everytime a parent sees their newborn for the first time, every time a baby smiles, is like a barb is her shrivelled twisted heart. She is like a more patheic Cruella Deville of babies, sitting alone surrounded by her pack of dogs tearing her hair out at the thought of babies. She probably enjoys the thought of children being sickly and malnourished, and smiles at the idea of their frantic mothers in anguish over their tiny wasted bodies.

Subsidizing machines to suck the teats of cows is a good use of government money but providing breast pumps for working women is a total waste.

Maybe I missed it, but I don’t see anyone else pointing this out…
Don’t get me wrong, I obviously agree that curlcoat is being ridiculous, but I’m not just not a fan of the go-to attack against women being about sex. If somebody doesn’t like a woman, she’s either frigid or a whore.
Like I said, maybe the irony was intentional, in which case I shall accept my whoosh with pride.
I’m still trying to figure out what the hell the Federal Debt has to do with insurance co-pays. Are United Healthcare and Blue Cross now financing the Federal Government?
Actually, I think people are over-stating how horrible formula is: it’s certainly not ideal, but it’s not “shit” and women who have to use formula (including adoptive mothers, those with low supply, and people who live lifestyles where it really is not feasible) are not dooming their children to a substandard life. The long-term impacts of formula vs breastmilk are simply not that clear cut. There’s no need to be hyperbolic (and, frankly, hurtful and alarmist to those women who really could not breastfeed) in response to idiocy. You don’t have to make formula feeding tantamount to child abuse in response to Curlcoat’s own vehemence.
However, if the point of this bill is to reduce health care costs, the one thing we do absolutely know breast milk is better at is providing antibodies that reduce the number of infections in those first six-twelve months. Those diseases lead to costly ER trips and doctor’s visits. So I think it’s a very good law.
As someone who is supplementing with formula once a day or so because of issues with milk supply, believe me I totally understand this point of view. It was not my intent under any circumstances to be hurtful to those who choose formula for whatever reasons. However the benefits of breast milk are really not under dispute. Formula is not going to kill a baby. Unfortunately it does increase potential health short term and long term health risks. Even more unfortunately **Curlcoat’s **POV on breast milk is shared by a significant percentage of the population.
I nursed my first child for two years. At every turn I was repeatedly confronted with people asking me to stop after a short time including several close relatives and a few friends. We need to do what we can to make it easier to nurse or pump milk for babies. That’s all I meant to imply.
No wonder my husband is so keen to get me refills on my lactase pills* when we are in Denmark. And here I thought it was because he didn’t like the smell of my farts.
If I were you I would be suspicious. She’s clearly up to no good.
My child was almost two when she decided “no more boobies!”. I cannot say for sure that this is the only factor, but my child has been to the doctor (other than regular checkups) exactly once in her 6 years. She had a sore throat about a year ago.
I had to pump the first two weeks due to extreme overproduction and resulting mastitis. It was painful and uncomfortable. I had to wear diapers in my already-big bras, and I would do it all over again. That pump was worth every penny of the $200 it cost me.
And yes, like you I met too many busybodies that found it urgently necessary to vocally disapprove of my choice.
I am lactose intolerant and Danish diet is heavy on diary.
