There was a period where breast feeding was pathologized because people were fucking retarded. There is no comparuson between breastfeeding and formula (and they can’t drink cow milk for the first year, you fucking dunce. Educate yourself).

You were doing OK and then that. WTF? You can raise tomatoes on a hothouse, pick them while they are still green, gas them so they will look good in the store but they may taste like shit because that’s not the best way to grow tomatoes.

Yes, you can raise a kid on formula and It might work out but breast milk is far superior. Why not promote the use of it instead of making it a big hassle? It’s a simple, cheap way of addressing a problem. It’s good for the child, it’s good for the mother. Look at the cost of formula. It’s cheap and simple to pollute the rivers, that doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t absorb the cost of keeping them clean.

I’ll give you a pass because you have been polite. I personally do not care what anyone feeds their kids, my only point was that they do not have to be breastfed. If you think anything else, it must be from reading what Diogenes the Cynic said in response to my post - he was way out in left field and I still don’t know what his point/issue/argument is.

One more time - I have no opinion on it, other than I really don’t want to see it in public (perhaps that is what LavenderBlue is on about, tho I don’t remember that being discussed in the Pit. Shrug).

I am all for a woman choosing what is best for herself and her baby, but it’s silly to try to deny that formula comes anywhere near as close to breastmilk.

Which, of course, I did not say. I asked a simple question - why are pumps needed - and Diogenes the Cynic lost his shit all over it. He seems to do that a lot. At the time, I thought the OP was about the government giving out free pumps, because the group complaining was going on about the debit.

Actually, I think people are over-stating how horrible formula is: it’s certainly not ideal, but it’s not “shit” and women who have to use formula (including adoptive mothers, those with low supply, and people who live lifestyles where it really is not feasible) are not dooming their children to a substandard life. The long-term impacts of formula vs breastmilk are simply not that clear cut. There’s no need to be hyperbolic (and, frankly, hurtful and alarmist to those women who really could not breastfeed) in response to idiocy. You don’t have to make formula feeding tantamount to child abuse in response to Curlcoat’s own vehemence.

If she has the audacity to go out in public with her child (let’s say, oh, I dunno, they need food from the friggin’ grocery store and the baby needs to be fed, she can bottle-feed it the pumped milk instead of offending your delicate sensibilities by breast-feeding.
