Lately, I’ve been having a ton of contact problems–last week, my eyes were watering so badly I could barely see, and today, I tried to wear my contacts again after wearing glasses all week, and they itched and burned so badly I couldn’t wear them for more than a few hours.
These are new lenses (I change every month), and I’ve never had seasonal allergies before. I recalled reading something about contacts on my LoEstrin (bc pills) insert, so I go back, and lo and behold, one of the side effects of the pill is a possible “inability to wear contact lenses.”
Has this ever happened to anyone? I’ve been on this brand of pill for about 8 months, and have never had contact problems before. I’ve been looking to get off the pill, so this might just be the kick in the rear that I need, but it’s puzzling that it came on so quickly and after I’d been on the pill for so long.
Geez, I’m sick of these glasses. Anyone had any similar experiences, or know someone who did?
I remember my eye dr. telling me that being pregnant changes the shape of your cornea; so that you shouldn’t get a contact lens prescription while you’re pregnant or they might not fit after the baby comes. Maybe that relates to the pill too.
I wear hard lenses, tho. Is that what you have? My daughter takes loestrin (the lowest dose) and wears contacts, but has no problems. She wears the soft ones.
Of course, there are other things like allergies to solution etc. which you might try to eliminate.
I got off the pill several years ago after getting migrain headaches, numbness in the arm, etc. It is like being let out of jail, I would not go back to taking them now.
I found once I started taking the pill, wearing contacts became slightly uncomfortable for me, but wearing glasses is more uncomfortable, so I just grin and bear it. Fortunately, it’s not as bad as what you describe.
Maybe it’s not connected to the pill, though. I don’t wear contacts or take the pill, and this year my allergies bothered my eyes for the first time. In addition to all the sinus problems, I started getting itchy/burning/tearing eyes, too. Joy. I assumed it was due to a new plant allergen, though, perhaps from a plant species, that hadn’t grown in abundance where I live before now.
