Birth control question

Today my girlfriend and I had sex, and when I withdrew I discovered that the condom had broken and I had apparently ejaculated in her. Today is also the fifth day of her period, and she is spotting. We were planning for her to start using Ortho Evra patch today before all this. I’m not sure how worried to be about whether or not she will get pregnant. She says that the patch (when she starts using it today or tomorrow), will prevent ovulation and therefore even though I ejaculated in her, she will not get pregnant, especially since she’s still on her period today anyway. What should we do? What are the risks of pregnancy?

Using the patch after the fact won’t stop anything. She needs to get a morning after pill (FTR, not an abortion pill!) right away. Should be able to get it prescribed from her doctor, or a Planned Parenthood facility. That’s if she wants to.

*crosses fingers for Qwertyasdfg

And I forgot, you two are sure about this, get that pill now! Don’t wait.

Thanks, and how much do those cost? I need to give her money to buy one.

Wow, my work blocked me from the PP site - http://www.plannedparenthood.org Wonder why?

Anyway, you should have your girlfriend follow up with her primary care physician, if she has one. Her insurance (if she has it) may cover the costs, or most of it. It’s mostly a double dose of the birth control pill anyway. If can’t get any luck with a doctor, check out the PP site above and see what you can find about the emergancy contraceptive, and maybe costs. I’ve heard the costs from PP can be anywhere from $25.00 to $50.00. So you’ll have to do some investigating, or maybe a doper that has used it before can give you a better idea.

IMO, your girlfriend may have a chance by using the patches, but it’s just not worth it to wait find out, especially if the condom broke and you both didn’t want this to begin with.

Don’t panic - the Morning After pill is misnamed, because it can be taken anything up to IIRC 72 hours after the ‘event’. But make sure you do get it. Exact same thing has happened to me and my girlfriend before, so I know how unpleasant it is.
