You can call it “censorship” if you wanna, and to some extent, it may very well be, but if you’re new here, then you need to acquaint yourself with the rules and where your threads are best placed.
We are all held to very high standards here on SDMB, and this is why I choose to post here at all rather than anywhere else.
I myself have had threads closed, and at first I didn’t see the wisdom in the closing, but now I do. Every now and then I even have to re-edit a post of mine before submitting it because it sounds “jerky”.
Bottom line: We are very fortunate to have an outlet for our frustrations and questions, and I think that the number one rule of not being a jerk is little enough to ask of us.
I didn’t mean for this be a sermon, I just hate to see posts like I have been seeing lately in the pit, involving our mods and/or administrators because someone didn’t like a closing of their thread.
These folks get no compensation, and if I were them I would have said “… you and the horse you rode in on”, long ago. I am glad they didn’t.
Icy, my friend: Down here in the “deep South” it’s called “Preachin’ to the choir”. But it amounts to the same thing, right?
I think that’s why they hang around (the mods/admins) even after the name-calling and bitchin’: They see that they can make a difference and do so. Daily.
It just saddens me to see posts about the mods/admins that are so angry from people so unwilling to understand. It goes back to to basic etiquette: Would you say these things to someone if he/she were standing right in front of you?
Quasi, me ol’ mate: I nearly did put “…to the choir”, but, being a foreigner from the really deep South (heh), I decided to go with the local lingo from around these parts. Meaning’s the same, eh?
It’s down to posters having spazzy tantrums when something hasn’t quite gone their way, is all. And they pick on the authority figure almost every time. Sad isn’t the word – the more accurate one, unfortunately, would mean sending this here thread of yours to the Pit for language.
Just thought I’d add a thank you to you for starting this thread. Folks offering the voice of reason when stuff goes a little haywire around here are to be valued for their opinions, helping to remind us of why we’re here. Well done, mate.
