Biting my tongue

Grrr this is going here because I am not bitter enough for the Pit.

So a friend and I applied for the same job, I got a second interview and he didn’t.

Ever since he found that out he has been talking like the only reason I had a second interview and he didn’t, was because I didn’t overly highball the salary expectations like he did. I gave my salary expectation amount by taking in consideration the size of the company and what they could realistically pay.

I keep biting my tongue whenever he brings it up, and he does, a lot.

I am biting my tongue because I know the reason I have a second interview is because one of the people on the hiring committee asked a highly regarded former employer of mine for recommendations. He suggested me, oh and the friend who applied also worked for the same person.

Is it so difficult to believe that they might want to hire me because I am qualified, or maybe a good employee, and not just because I “low balled” the salary.
Grrr he just phoned to see how the interview went and was shocked that they didn’t talk salary and try to talk me down more.
Again, grrrr

firstly, i hope you get the job… just to really make his day…

some people just bring the word gyroscope to mind. does he not think it may just be because you were the better candidate… maybe his pride can’t take it… i really don’t think salary expectations will make that much difference in the selection until it gets to the actual hiring as they are going to want the best candidate and that’s not necessarily the most expensive one. anyway, if your friend is not asking a realistic salary he may be pricing himself out of the market since any recruiter will just look at it and laugh.

sounds like he’s not that good of a friend if he’s trying (unsuccessfully?) to undermine you like that
lie - tell him the interview went great and they offered you half again as much as you were expecting
