Bittorrent Hosting Question

Suppose I have access to a web server (but not a shell account/root access). Is there any way I can use it to seed Bittorrent files? I’d like to use it to distribute some files while conserving as much bandwidth as possible.

Ideally, I’d just run a BT client on the machine, but it’s a shared web hosting thing and I don’t think I can run executables on it like that – or can I, somehow?

The server is using:
-FreeBSD
-PHP
-Perl/CGI
-MySQL

Perhaps there’s a BT client written in Perl or PHP…?

If necessary, I can set up a tracker on the same server to track the torrent. The new trackerless option is fine too, as long as the server still acts as one of the seeders.

Does anyone know if this is doable?

(Note to mods: This is NOT being used for anything illegal. It’s just a technical question anyway and has nothing to do with the content being transferred.)

Thank you.

Thank you so much! After a few hours of configuration and tracker-setting-upping, it finally works! Yay! Sweet.

Cool! I’m interested in this too, for distributing my own work.
