I usually listen to my music from my desktop Mac Pro, most of the tracks having been downloaded from the original CDs. Since I loaded the new version of iTunes (v12.2.0.145), something strange has happened three times. All of a sudden it was playing two tracks simultaneously. One of them was Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, with guitar soloist. Except that I only have the Four Seasons with violin or flute soloists, not guitar. And this music could not be stopped, even when I quit iTunes. It just kept playing, until it was finished.
I have not been in the iTunes Store or Radio, or accessed any music other than my own. So where is this music coming from?
From the information given, I would assume that somehow two players were playing at once, whether somehow two versions of iTunes were both loaded at the same time, or iTunes and Windows Media Player or something. Or even just there was some automatically starting music on one of the webpages you were on. Especially since the music didn’t stop when you quit iTunes. If it happens again, run Task Manager and see if there are any other media programs running.
As per Omar Little, also go through the various settings menus to make absolutely sure Apple Music/Radio/iTunes Genius/Heyweknowbetterthanyoupeasant are off and the active choice is to play it straight from your local library. From what I hear the latest updates default to activating Apple Music.
SUCCESS!!! It started playing the Vivaldi, and I immediately closed my browser, and the music stopped. Turned out, I had a “StumbleUpon” window open . . . and it was playing a neverending Vivaldi playlist. I don’t know why it only kicked in occasionally.
And I do not have the “Apple Music” box checked in iTunes preferences.
