Black Caviar (racehorse): On track to be one of the greatest of all time?

Still undefeated, it’s looking more and more likely.

Black Caviar romps home for 13th straight victory

An impressive start but she’s still six wins behind the joint Australasian record of Desert Gold and Gloaming (19 consecutive wins). Oh and she’d have to win 41 more to match Kincsem

14 from 14.

Too bad she’s not a stallion, she’d be worth more later on in stud fees. But a mare can only pop out one a year.

15 from 15.

You can see how easy she makes it look here. The video is down the page on the left.

Her last several races have been like this. She runs along like she’s having a track gallop, in a few strides puts 6 lengths on horses that are traveling well, and then is eased down for the last 100m.

By quite some margin the best, most dominant sprinter I have ever seen.

Let’s face it- she is a dominant sprinter- any comparison with Phar Lap or even Kingston Town is meaningless.

She beat a field of walkers on Saturday- she had four second rate opposition. Hang on- make that 4th rate.

She is undoubtedly a top racehorse who has been well placed and she is scaring opposition away.

How many course records does she hold? None.

When she stretches out in distance and takes on some overseas opposition I may start thinking she is a champion racehorse. At present I can’t even rate her the top mare of the last ten years.

The Diva?

Yes- on versatility alone. Makybe Diva has won over a greater distance range and also against international horses. ( I also think she had some help along the way with watered tracks).

However, at this time Makybe Diva has won 7 Group 1’s- Black caviar has the 6.

And that is also a long way behind Sunline who won 13 Group 1’s.

This is a never ending argument though. I subscribe to a racing board where it is a continual battle. As soon as you try and argue that Black caviar is not a God, you get described as a Black caviar hater etc.

I would like to see her in one of the Breeders Cup races one of these years, but (a) since they’re in November, they’re too close to Australia’s big races, and (b) the only race on grass shorter than a mile (1600m) is 5 furlongs (1000m), and it’s “only” a Grade 2 race.

16 from 16.

Now sitting equal 5th on the all-time undefeated winners list.

18 straight and counting.

Now sitting equal 3rd on the all time undefeated winners list.

20 straight yesterday, including 10th Group 1 win.

She’s heading to Royal Ascot now, and if she wins there, even the nay(neigh?) sayers will have to acknowledge her place in history.

21 from 21.

Outright second on the all-time undefeated winners list.

hmm let’s wait and see what she does at Ascot. Although she is lovely and so is the money I have made on her along the way.

For those that are still interested, Black Caviar runs at the Diamond Jubilee Stakes shortly. If she wins this one, she’ll cement her place in the pantheon of Australian sport.

Black Caviar should win tonight. It is pretty much a second rate field she is opposed to.

In the last fortnight Vote For Lust who is now an aged horse (seven I think) had his 88th start. That is not that unusual- except he is still trying to win a Maiden Race.

At his age most horses are retired. Here he is still trying to crack it for the elusive win. he has become a cult horse and is now sponsored by a Corporate Bookmaker. He runs at places like Mildura (hardly Royal Ascot) and his owner and trainer love the horse.

It is not all about winning 21 straight.

If she wins this morning it will be 12 Group 1s and 22 straight. It would be difficult to dismiss all of the fields she’s faced as second (or even fourth) rate.

Huh? Vote For Lust?

Yes- I just threw that up as a comparison. Battlers love their horse who has never won a race. And on his performances, I don’t think he will.

I think he eats as much as Black Caviar though (who is owned by non battlers).
