I saw Jamie Fox on Letterman the other night and a few nights ago watched Barbershop on cable. Fox and Ice Cube have very short haricuts and ther hairlines are perfectly straight lines with right angles at the edge of their foreheads. I assume that this apparent precision is not natural.
So do black men with these styles shave their hairlines every day, or is there some other method?
I suspect it is daily, or close to it. All the guys in high school when I played football would have less exact hairstyles so I can’t really say.
But I doubt it was a daily cut, though it might just be like shaving in the morning.
I honestly am not 100% sure.
One of my friends has a noticeable widow’s peak when he hasn’t shaved that day; clearly that straight-line on the forehead is not universal at least. So yes, that would be the result of shaving.
The part of the haircut that’s done around the edges is call the shape-up. Depending on the person, the shape-up usually stays crisp for about a week.
Mr. Tech gets his hair cut every five to seven days. His hair grows super duper fast, though. Sometimes, if its almost time to get a haircut but he likes the length and we’re, say, going out to dinner, he’ll pop into the barbershop just for a shape-up.
As far as the people you saw on TV, I’m willing to bet they got a shape-up the day of, if not right before, appearing on camera.
