Interesting selectivity you have there. You seem to have completely ignored the sentence preceding the one you quoted:
–Me
I think I indicated pretty clearly that, other than the OP for this thread, I hadn’t read any other of Klansman’s posts.
I also indicated that, from the context of other people’s comments concerning Klansman, that it may very well be a good thing if he and his topics are yanked
But from what I saw in the OP (a link to an article by a respected columnist and Professor of Economics at a noted university, and a solicitation for comment) there was no reason to ban this topic or Klansman, based upon what I had seen in this thread. If he learns to behave, let him play with the other children.
You also entirely missed my point that hatred doesn’t neccesarily equate to stupidity; the latter can certainly contribute to the former, but it isn’t a universal truism.
And lastly, I stated fairly unequivocally that I felt that a topic or member should not be yanked based upon the political correctness of their post or views, as long as they can be reasnoably civil about it, in the moderator’s opinion.
If you disagree, that’s your prerogative; just don’t climb in my face because your selectivity knob’s been twirled too far to the left.
Was anyone else surprised by the number of articulate posts under this topic? Obviously posted by a vulgar racist, I nearly dismissed this topic out-of-hand–then I noticed that this topic spanned three pages.
Look what I would have missed! No surprise to see tomndebb dominating with that combination of well-considered position and well-informed support. And what’s with John John swinging from reasonably articulate to obsessive mentation? Libertarian was hilarious in egging him on (btw Libertarian, are you [b"]Momotaro**?); nebuli rivals tomndebb in articulate, well-formed argument; Lonesome Polecat improbably produces support for his assertions; andros exposes bullshit with absolutely no ceremony … none of this would have happened if this topic and klanman had been immediatly locked down and tossed.
Certainly, there is no excuse for bigotry–which KM transparently couches in euphemisms like “unorthodox un-PC views” and I question the sincerity of his commitment to play nice, but I don’t believe anything positive can come out of excluding him. The participants in this forum are sufficiently articulate and powerful to keep the dynamic in the domain of civilized discussion.
