Stealing the Vibranium was what got the Wakandans to take notice.
I may have missed something–I thought Klaue was the one who knew where Wakanda was, and Killmonger needed him for that.
Reading up on it, Killmonger had his dad’s notes, so he also knew how to get there (I may or may not have taken a bathroom break during this scene). However, it’s a fair point: even if he had the technical right to challenge on Challenge Day, there’s a decent chance he wouldn’t have been allowed to do so. His sudden appearance could have slowed everything down, and the shaman character knew about his dad and might have put the kibosh on things.
By coming in with Klaue, having humiliated T’Challa and having gained an ally at the same time, he was walking into an unstable situation. Things progressed quickly enough that nobody caught on to his (or his dad’s) treachery in time.
Saw it. Awesome. Favorite moments include:
Telescoping spear that can bypass x-ray scanner. Her opponent was really surprised. To paraphrase Revolver Ocelet; “---- me, that’s a spear!” (It was a sword, in a great webcomic, not the original game.) Okoye is such a great character!
I really liked the villain. I always think that makes the movie.
“Witness the might of the Jabari tribe. Firsthand!” Put him in every movie Black Panther appears in, please.
Rhino Guy? Gorilla Guy? You guys didn’t really have that much trouble keeping track of the names, did you?
I couldn’t tell you what those guys were called either. Or funky eye guy, or Killmongers dad. Not even Bilbo.
Huh. It never would have occurred to me that the names were that hard to remember.
T’Challa and Klaue are the only names I can remember from the movie. Unless you count “Killmonger”.

Rhino Guy is W’kabi.
Gorilla Guy is M’Baku.
Funky-eye Guy is Zuli.
Bilbo is Agent Ross.
Killmonger’s dad I’ll give you. His real name was mentioned maybe twice in the whole movie. (Looking it up, it was N’Jobu.)
I do remember Shuri Nakia and Okoye.
I think I already mentioned it in the thread, but I have a hard time with names even when they’re names familiar to me, and when I have an opportunity to see them written. It’s much harder when the names come from an unfamiliar culture, and I only hear them.
I’m not sure who “funky-eye guy” is supposed to be, though. I don’t remember anyone with funky eyes from the movie.
Yeah, anyone who not only remembers all those names but is baffled by anyone else’s failure to do so after one viewing of the movie, has a brain very different from mine.

Zuli was played by Forest Whitaker.
My mistake; I thought that they were distinctive enough to keep track of.
I think he meant Zuri. The priest guy that knew the secret of killmonger’s parentage.
But I have to admit that I cheated on that, looked it up on IMDB. (Not the funky eye’d guy, I remember him being the priest, but the name, and I had to look it up to make sure it was the right guy I was thinking of.)
Forest Whitaker would probably be pleased to learn there’s at least one person who doesn’t see anything “off” about either of his eyes!

OK, now that I Google imaged him, I can see that his left eyelid is droopy. After-effect of a stroke, I’m guessing? But no, I didn’t notice that in the movie.
Ptosis. In his case (but not all) it’s hereditary.
Whitaker’s pretty hard to miss, especially since he is in approximately 400 movies per year
Eh…I found myself thinking “It’s Disney Epcot Africa…”
Probably not a great idea to have two distinct characters in the same movie named Shuri and Zuri.
