Black Panther movie

Seriously mate, you’ve got issues.

For real, I know I said that role was taken, but Shagnasty better watch his back.

Why, it’s Mighty White of you to thank me.

Man, Slacker, I don’t think it’s fair how people are piling on you here but you are making it way too easy.

Don’t worry. Like I said, this is fun for me.

I appreciate the kind word though! It’s honorable and courageous of you to go against the tide of peer pressure like that.

Nothing is more fascinating then reading a stranger on the internet post paragraphs and paragraphs about how smart they are. Now I know why I used to get you and Shags confused all the time, Slacker!

May I gently suggest–to myself and others–that unless we want this thread to be the Slacker thread, we stop responding to his happy slappy dumbshittery? He’s having fun trolling.

You don’t think it’s fair to give pushback to the guy who said colonialism had its upsides? Well, whoop-de-do for you, Mahātmā.

And I’m having fun pointing out how obviously clueless he is, so it’s win-win.

I don’t think that’s the point he was trying to make.

Please do give your interpretation of

Of course colonialism has its upsides. As long as you happen to be one of the colonialists.

Or, you know, one of the people who subsequently benefits from being pulled (however painfully) into the same century as the rest of the world.

God what bullshit. Why are you assuming that without colonialism an African country could not have made progress at a similar rate to various other parts of the world? Without colonialism, there wouldn’t have been artificial borders creating extreme tensions that otherwise wouldn’t have been there; without colonialism there wouldn’t have been mass brutality from the colonizers; without colonialism there wouldn’t have been the mass relocations of populations as well as ethnic cleansings that colonizers were guilty of; without colonialism, the concept of white supremacism wouldn’t have been able to so strongly influence so many African societies; without colonialism there wouldn’t have been the mass plunder and theft of resources; and much more.

Without all of this, it’s entirely reasonable to presume that some African societies would have had just as much of a chance to progress technologically and socially as many European and Asian societies did.

I am, as I said before, someone without a vested opinion on the subject colonialism. As I said, I only judged it by the definition.

So, as someone who knows nothing about the subject, SlackerInc, you are not making me think anything good about this. You’re making statements that only makes sense if you think the White Man was the only one who could come in and help these primitive people. That the white savior racist paradigm.

If your defense of colonialism requires you to believe that the conquered people were inferior in intelligence and would never have been able to evolve into a modern society without the help of the colonists, then your defense utterly fails.

Too obvious, chum. If you’re going to troll you’ve got to have a lighter touch than ridiculous statements like the above.

“If it weren’t for slavery, Africans-Americans would still be living in mud huts worshipping rocks.”

If they’re making these movies specifically to appeal to people who read comics in the '80s, they’re absolutely going to do a Joe Fixit movie. That interpretation of the character was introduced in 1986, and lasted until 1991.

Note: They’re absolutely not going to ever do a Joe Fixit movie.

On a similar note, that whole “numbered alternate reality” thing you complained about? Introduce in 1981, and is one of the defining features of Marvel’s '80s comics.

Are you talking about the New Universe? I am dimly remembering that now, although I don’t remember having numbers involved since it was the only other one besides the regular MU.

Let me remind you that I am only saying there are shades of grey, not “colonialism, yay”.

Nor am I saying that these countries would not have advanced on theirown. But they were way behind the West, which is what made colonialism possible to begin with. So why should we believe their independent advancements would have been fast enough to catch up?

By the way, this isn’t just about Africa or nonwhite countries. The same is true to some extent for a place like Ireland.

The jokes write themselves, people.

Please, tell us how “way” behind they were at the start of colonialism.

Japan, is why.
