Black sneakers with velcro instead of laces

I love my all-black sneakers (no prominent logos or highlights in other colours) with the velcro straps, but I’m tired of how fast they wear out – I get them at Payless for $20-30 a pair. Does anyone have any suggestions for a better brand? I’m willing to pay more for better quality.

We’ve been pleased with New Balance shoes; most decent shoe stores should carry them (I bought my first pair at Nordstrom’s, and I think JC Penney’s carries them).

I haven’t personally tried the velcro ones, but Papa Zappa wears New Balance almost exclusively, and he hasn’t had any complaints about the velcro pair he owns.
